The years have come and gone again,
Life has passed by so quickly,
Experiences forgotten, pain remembered.

Can I train my heart not to feel?
With no feeling, there is no pain.

What is this world coming to?
I am ashamed to be human,
I want to escape to a place away,
A place with beauty, passion, love and freedom.

A place unlike my existence,
To leave myself, go for good,

To be a free spirit wandering this life,
Without the heartbreak and struggle,
O, to be a wandering spirit...

And escape from me.

Wonderfully humane

Wonderfully inconsistent (beware of people who are always consistent) and marginally self aware; dreaming of better world which resides where? Outside somewhere? Or with a different attitude?

That person could be you and me at out best or at out lowest. Captured by the toughest of human dilemmas: “Can I train my heart not to feel? / With no feeling, there is no pain” (a soliloquy from Hamlet comes to mind). Or stuck in a rut of repetitive existence: “The years have come and gone AGAIN,.” (My emphasis).

Maybe the real courage is in raising the same questions of our human condition even if there will be no answer. For me, this is a particularly strong and touching poem.

Either a telling indictment of self

Or a fear that to experience life's

Pleasures

You need be open to its

Pains.
