I knew him before.
I have heard this music.
Deep, deep memories I have of
a dark-skinned lover
who stirred an animal heat in me
I'd never felt before.
From the moment I sensed his breath
on the back of my neck
his black eyes flirting with me
igniting an insistent thrumming,
too confused for just a moment
to realize that it's only my heartbeat
beat that remembers this music
from way back when
I knew him before.

And it will be just as easy
as it was then
to surrender
To close my eyes and follow the rhythm
to when I knew him before.
