It has been said
Or so I've been told
That it is a good thing
When I'm made out of gold.
But alternately
I cause men to groan
When I'm harder inside
And am made out of stone.
Fragile, uncertain,
Exposed to the past,
It's said I can fracture
When made out of glass.
The last of my forms
Is where laughter was sold
It's all quiet and cruel
When inside I am cold.
...
What am I?
