It's late at night and no one else is home;
you're feeling down, so you reach for the phone.
Baby, you can cry on my shoulder...
And when she feels so bad
It makes me feel so sad
Baby, you can cry on my shoulder...
And her smile I unveil,
makes her bright heart set sail.
Baby, you can cry on my shoulder...

My friend sits and thinks, dazed & confused.
He feels so dejected, worthless, and used.
He calls me up and gives speech to his pain.
His words burn like fire in my heart, in my brain.
But I want to help so badly, that's all I wish to do.
And my heart goes out to show him all that's true.
Then his smile breaks out and the world's all right.
We'll both sleep easy in our worlds tonight.
Reaching out like that takes a risk, try to be bolder:
'Cause hey, man, you can cry on my shoulder...

Far across town, she won't sleep tonight.
Fell for a guy who just seemed so right.
He took advantage of her trust and it hurts so much,
So she calls for the one who consoles without touch.
Baby, you can cry on my shoulder...
  And the truth comes out, never voicing a doubt;
As she tells me all about her presumptuous lout.
Please give me all your pain and I'll bear it for you.
I'll do anything I can to help you feel less blue.
Baby, you can cry on my shoulder...

So when it all comes down and the silence fills the air
I stand here alone, my own problems meet my stare
And I think real hard as I search my heart
'Til I find that spark that makes my blues depart
My friends are few but the ties are strong
I've got people I can turn to when my life goes wrong
Mostly my burdens stay my own, but I take the sting out of theirs
They bring me all their problems, I don't meddle in their affairs
So when I feel so blue and my world's caving in
I remember those I helped and I smile once again
You're the ones that make me special once more
And for each of you, will you find my open door
I can ne'er repay, so when your smile's getting colder:
Anytime, anytime...you can cry on my shoulder...
