The dumbest thing was to ask Mary to marry him when they met at the 5 year high school reunion. He had not really dated Mary prior to the marriage proposal and they hadn’t seen each other for 5 years. Just look at YouTube for failed public marriage proposals and these couples had been dating routinely for many years.
There could be no rating other than a 5.
I am facing a similar situation with a progressive condition in my wonderful wife of 45 years, and watching her memory get worse and worse...
...a precursor to physical deterioration.
I cried several times reading of a love like ours, and an all-too-familiar grim future to come.
Your telling of the story was touching, sensitive, and even uplifting to a degree.
Well done... and thanks for writing it.
An idyllic story. Are there really people who go through life with so little unanticipated adversity? If so, I wonder if they truly have good fortune. The darker times of our lives challenge our beliefs, test our skills, reveal our true friends and in many ways serve to refine our character. Steel that has not been tempered may look good but stress quickly proves it is brittle and weak.
The tale reminds me of my parents marriage. They were totally committed to each other and worked and lived as a team. A very good story, a 5!

Prosaic but cute tale. However, I can attest by personal experience that having a loved one fade away with Alzheimer's is absolutely gut wrenching experience that I would not wish on my worst enemy. Sadly their death is a release for them and their loved ones. So sad.
“No, you’re crying !” What an incredible story of love and commitment. Touched home on so many levels. Don’t read this without a box of tissues. A real tear jerker. The easiest 5-😊😊😊😊😊 ever.
Great story so unlike this site to have such a loving wife's tale. Now I sit here my brown eyes crying.
"The price is your life. She's my wife and I'll kick your ass across the room if you even get close to her. So, the price to have her would be your life,"
Another of your very loving romance’s that draws us into the misty world of loving tears that makes our hearts ache.

many of the storys on this site give me sensations in my groin. Then there are the special few like this one that cause even stronger feeling in my heart. Thank You DG Hear
I was reading this waiting for the inevitable cheating. I was so pleasantly surprised that this was a pure love story, and it was told so well. I feel it was worth more than 5 stars, but that was the most allowed. Thank you DG Hear.
What an amazing tale, so beautiful! Thank you DG! (3rd read) 5 stars

5 stars on a beautiful story . It reminds me of my Mom and Dad . Only it was my Dad who had those great blue eyes . I know they are in heaven holding hands and visiting the family that are up their with them .
I don't know about your other readers; but, I had to keep wiping away the tears for most of this story. You are an outstanding story teller!!
What a beautiful, wonderful and romantic story. It was totally written beautifully that I didn't realise I m wiping my eyes frequently while reading your story. Definitely a five star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Rarely does such a soppy romance tale interest me, but this was so well written it just flowed, never detouring or slowing, enabling the emotion to feel credible.
Damn, this is one of the most heartfelt stories I have ever read. I wish I had of been given the opportunity to have received a love like that. I have been married and divorced three times but a true love like that has never come my way. It actually makes me kind of jealous. Anyway, I gave this story 5 stars but only because I could not give it 10 stars.
A true love story,I had tears in my eyes through this story, well written,5 stjerner
Lately I have paid some attention to the Hall of Fame stories. Extremely high scores in the 4.70- 4.80's range. It is interesting to note that very few are of the cheating type.
The hacks who crank out formulaic cheating stories might consider this.
Five stars, of course, for a sweet, syrupy tale that makes a person feel good.
JPB NOT BOB
Just beautiful. One of the finest I've ever read. Thank you, DGH, now where's that damn box of tissues?!!
