Kathleen watched as the woman, with a great effort, let go of the picture and put her arms to her sides.
"Yes Kathleen," Candace replied softly.
The secretary looked sadly from the portrait to Candace, struggling to find words of comfort for the widow...for herself, even though anything she could say seemed woefully inadequate.
"It's hard to believe he's gone Mrs. Allen," Kathy sniffed, "I keep expecting him to turn the corner and bump into me...it's as if he's still here."
Candace turned to the secretary with a drawn expression and then reached a gloved hand to her face, gently wiping away the tears from her eyes with a lover's touch.
"He is Kathleen," she moaned, "oh god...he is."
