Thirty two years had passed since the The Bombardment of Earth. The Federation Council was meeting to set the succession to the Empress in motion as well as discuss other items of business including setting a time frame for the admittance of Earth to the Federation of Planets.

The people of Earth had hoped they had made a good enough impression that it would happen in no more than a hundred years.

Resorts were built for specific aliens including two for the aquatic people, the Cephalons and the aquatic Akkad. The Cephalons were widely respected for their intelligence but had not been embraced by the other planets except for Akkad, they were apparently too alien.

Humans thought they were cool.

The Cephalons were overwhelmed when they visited resorts with an entire lagoon for them to wander in from the comfort of their underwater accommodation.

The Cephalons were stunned by the communicators humans came up with for them; they no longer needed interpreters on Earth.

Humans were very clever people they thought.

It was their Ambassador to the Federation who nominated Earth/Cel for admission before the coronation ceremony of the Empress.

The ambassadors were somewhat surprised by the nomination but the only qualm the others could come up with was with the shortness of the time period before admission.

The Cephalon reminded all that a long wait was not a requirement for admission to the Federation, tolerance and friendliness to others were.

"No peoples have shown as much tolerance and friendliness to all of us as humans have. We need them with us," it said.

The Ambassadors and the Emperor were trying to think of a way to refute his statement then the Florian peoples Ambassador suddenly voted, "Yes."

Earth had built a resort within a large clear dome for them. They could breathe in there and had an enclosed patio area to host the ones that used oxygen.

Ambassador Amapola had already been to the resort with her family three times. They loved Cel's tropical forests.

The Devl Ambassador smiled and said, "I never would have believed I would do this just fifty years ago, but I vote yes."

The Kindred voted "Happily yes."

The Sprite voted, "Definitely yes."

The Saurian said, "They seem to think we are stars, they are the first people not to be initially frightened by us. We vote yes."

All awaited the Emperors vote. He was very happy at the sudden turn of events. He would live long enough to extend the invitation to humans although not long enough to celebrate with them himself.

But before he cast his vote he asked his daughter and future Empress to cast the vote for the Akkad, she would be the one to oversee the transition.

Ohme asked, "Is this my first decision as Empress?"

Her father smiled and said, "Yes."

The Ambassadors understood that simple word transferred all his powers to her.

She then said, "Earthlings have a lifestage called retirement. I hereby order you to enter the stage of retirement on the Federation Planet Earth and never interfere with the affairs of Akkad."

The Ambassadors laughed and promptly passed the proposition.

When the Empress arrived on Earth Clara was the first to formally greet her but they did not have a chance for a private moment so she went back to Felicity.

She was drinking a beer with Fiona and friends on Mr. Wu's patio until she saw Fiona's face register shock. She turned and was stunned to see him standing there, her only son, wearing a Marvin the Martian shirt and a very old baseball cap.

She leaped to him and cried between kisses until she then had to share him with Fiona.

The others wondered what the fuss was all about but soon recognized the Akkad as the Emperor and welcomed him back. One asked him why he was not at the celebration in Clara.

"I am now retired by order of the Empress. I am no longer allowed to take part in affairs of state. I can take part in the beer drinking please Mr. Wu."

Fiona and Clara decided not to tell the others why they were so happy to see him, alive.

They had not accepted the invitation to the Ceremony of Succession.

The Empress had decided that the spirit of the tradition was to ensure that the previous Emperor or Empress did not influence the decisions of the new ruler and had concluded that exile to another planet would do just as well. The protocol instituted was that they would not be allowed to be in the same room at any time and he could not initiate any communication with her.

The Empress had already decided that it would be OK for her to talk to her father via communicator whenever she wanted. She would be the first Empress to be able to do so in millennia.

His communicator signaled and the Empress asked him if he had found Clara.

"Yes, we are having a beer together at Mr. Wu's right now."

"Clara took his phone from him and told her, "You are a clever girl and I love you. Your Dad will be fine in Felicity. How are you doing, ceremonies over?"

"Except for the party at the Ambassadors compound and choosing Earth's Ambassadors to the Federation. Any ideas on that? All the Peer have declined."

"Hang on.

Mom, would you like to be Earths Ambassador to the Federation?"

"What?" Why are you asking me?"

"I am talking to the Empress and she wants my suggestion."

"Tell her sure."

" Mom, I'm serious."

"Why doesn't one of the Peer go?"

"They don't think they represent humans and you have always wanted to travel to the stars."

"Oh."

"She said yes. Does she need to be at Ambassadors Compound tonight?"

"Yes, both of you do. Be dressed to party. Thank you Mah; I love you. Tell Dad I love him too. Bye."

"Drink up Madame Ambassador, we need to get ready."

"Hmm. Clara? Are her sister and her sightless friend still around?" the former emperor asked.

"They will be here shortly but she is no longer sightless so behave yourself."

"Hey I'm retired. I don't have to behave myself anymore."

"Dirty old Akkad," Clara said and kissed him then drug her Mom away with her.

"Fiona!" Clara yelled at her lover that had thought for a moment she had just escaped having to attend a too loud party.

The Emperor laughed and kissed Fiona saying,"'Be brave."

The Emperor stayed in Felicity and lived another fifty years, most of those in the company of Wendy.

Paloma's husband had never returned from his assignment. Their last conversation was a call from Madrid and he had said that travel had become difficult because of riots. That was after the Gulf meteor impact. She had accompanied the rescue crews on every trip to Europe.

At home she moved in with Martina and Adrian briefly and spent times in bed with them.

When Clara saw she could communicate with the Saurans without assistance she told the Queen and the Empress and Paloma was soon Earth's ambassador to Crertais.

The entry of Earth into the Federation of Planets made Felicity an even more popular place to visit since the interplanetary port was there.

Masses of aliens visited Earth and many stayed in the town. The resort and the bed and breakfast stayed full as did every restaurant in town.

The people of Felicity never came to grips with the fact that they represented the last relic of the old Earth with private homes and streets with individually owned moving vehicles, swimming pools and flower covered private gardens. To the rest of the planets Felicity was amazingly unique.

One enterprising young man decided to start a driving school for the visitors that became very popular.

One alien prisoner had been housed in the Island wildlife habitat next to Felicity. When he was freed he and his wife became part of Felicity. Their first daughter won the election as a representative to the Royal Council of Cel. Her father then her younger sister later became Leader of the Mur planet.

Felicity reached its maximum sustainable population of five hundred. Ninety two were alien including three Gaan and their children.

Their planet would soon be joining the Federation.

Per capita Felicity was the most fully integrated town in the Federation. No one noticed if the person next to them in a restaurant, or a train, or a dress shop was Akkad, Devl, Sprite, Mur, Kindred or Doran.

There were just six Saurans in Felicity and they were big people so they did stand out, briefly.

The favorite places for Cephalons, Florans and most Saurans were not in Felicity although many Saurans often visited Mr. Hu's restaurant to enjoy his sea veggie dishes. They also loved to keep company with the Azulians who lived in town.

Wendy ceased to be at the age of one hundred sixty seven as she was overtaken by an orgasm gifted to her by the former Emperor. He ceased to be a week later. Wendy had for all practical and social purposes become his wife and most assumed he died of grief.

Mo ceased to be fourteen years later right after an orgasm gifted to her by the former Empress while she was Ambassador to Kindred. They had been partners for forty years and she was considered to be a Mom to the Emperor too.

All of the MacDuff daughters and nieces lived to be nearly two hundred years old as did Ruthie and Sean. They outlived all but four of the Peers.

Janie and Paloma lived to be two hundred years old. Paloma had lived on Hahdes for twenty years by then. She had been swept off her feet by the Devl ambassador to Crertais and when he returned home she went with him. She had never returned to Earth.

Janie lived her whole life in Felicity although she travelled to other planets to take part in the red and green wars often. Her great-great granddaughter now ran Janie's Gourmet Junk Food. Her name was Janie.

Clara and Audrey outlived their sisters and cousins by over fourteen years. They had cancer when the potion was first given to them and had more doses than the others. They had been partners since their spouses died fifteen years before, in the same bed with them, after a fine mini orgy.

Apparently death by orgasm had become the preferred way to go.

Clara and Audrey were the last two pioneers from their original town.

They were the last two humans that had lived through the Bombardment, although the Duchess Natalia and and Queen Claudia outlived them.

Clara and Audrey were the last living humans that knew the Peer were constructs.

Audrey died a year before Clara at the age of two hundred and twenty.

The Farewell for Clara brought hundreds of thousands of visitors to Earth. Billions of people in every Federation planet watched from home. Millions cried that day.

Her memorial plaque had to be placed away from the others because hundreds came to talk to her each week. A garden was prepared in the largest plaza in Lord Jim's realm which was now called Felicity.

Five obelisks were constructed with a wide circular pathway around them. One was for Duke Jim, The First Lord of Felicity and fourth King of Earth. The second was for Mizuki the First Duchess of Felicity and fourth and seventh Queen of Earth.

At the opposite side was Clara's remembrance marker, the largest of all. Her marker simply read, "Clara MacDuff, First Friend to Akkad, Devl, Kindred."

The former Emperor and her Aunt Wendy's plaques were to her left, her Mother's and the former Empress to her right.

Wendy's plaque read "Aunt to First Friend, Consort to Emperor Ohnling.

Mo's plaque said, Mother to First Friend, Ambassador to Akkad, Consort to Empress Ohme.

Clara's obelisk also had a plaque on its back the only one on the planet that did. It read Fiona Chatwood, Consort to First Friend.

Many talked to her.

A mural was erected at the junction of new and old Felicity Boulevard. It was a scene taken from Clara's house seventy years before.

Clara was seen pointing her finger at the former Emperor in mock anger as he cowered away from her as Fiona, Wendy, Mo, and the former Empress and the Devl Tal were laughing their heads off. That scene was the most popular visual in every planet for years.

Every one that walked by the mural always smiled.

Clara's birthday became a holiday for all of the now ten planets of the Federation and the planet of the Azulians which had not been invited yet but would a few years later.

On Earth her birthday became the holiest of days celebrated by kissing everyone anyone saw that day, human or not.

When Clara ceased to be Earth was the gem of the planets and the statues of Clara and Ohm in the main plaza of Clara, the capital city of Planet Earth, still had to be cleaned of lipstick every day.

darn it!

I had missed this one. jj, unless your vivid imagination comes up with something new to add to this saga of Felicity. This is a terrific ending for this series. I hope you will consider turning this into a book?
