"I just felt you should know that." He nodded and left, wife cradled in his arms.
Elunara stood in Mathias' office. "Rolo gave me that afterwards."
Mathias sighed, pushing the packet away. "I'll review it later. How are you?"
"Well, my hand matches my chest, so that's kind of cool, I guess."
He chuckled. "You are always such a pain in the ass."
"What did I do this time?" She rolled her eyes.
"Saved my life, for one." He stood up. "Saved my daughter's life, again, for another." Moving around the desk, he put a hand on her shoulder. "It has come to my attention, that perhaps I am something like a father to you... and that you are something like a daughter to me."
Elunara's eyes went wide and she took a sharp breath. "I..."
"I guess it's fitting that I've chosen you for succession."
"NO!" She stepped back. "If you give it to me now, I will flat ass refuse."
"I know." He laughed. "I'm not. Like I said, I've got a good ten to fifteen in me."
"You said fifteen to twenty, dammit. If I have to shoot you full of energy to do it, I damned well will."
He laughed. "You and your emotions. I hope you have a handle on those by time I choose to give this all to you."
She rolled her eyes. "You're a damned smartass. Do I have to call you "daddy" now?"
"Please don't. It can only mean disturbing things, coming from you."
Her lip twitched. "That's an accurate assessment." She leaned against the desk. "You know, I'm older than you."
"I'm well aware."
"That would make Jenny my sister... which she practically is anyway. I need to make up a family tree." She sighed.
"Everything gets just that much more complicated when you're involved." He winked.
The animals are always there, even when I don't write about them. SaTa and Argy live in their nest on the roof.
