Click hereAs with Chris, Katherine could feel the intensity of the other woman's emotions but not decipher them. She didn't understand this. She was Dhase now, she should be able to taste their emotions. Chris couldn't help but express himself, it was written in his features. Her head moved back in order to meet the elder's eyes. Daphne remained unreadable most of the time. Without such visual clues Katherine felt blind. "When will he be back?"
The briefest twitch of her lip betrayed, what; irony, concern, or resignation? "I don't know." The five foot brunette stood back, still holding Katherine's hands tenderly. "I do know he will be thinking of you, and I. He wishes us nothing but happiness while he settles the debt." For a moment they stood, connected to each others eyes.
Suddenly Daphne smiled and her face transformed. While distant, she seemed every bit the aged vampire, struggling through the centuries. When she smiled she became a mischievous teenager. Even her voice softened. "Come. We'll find someone to share tonight, a man I think." Daphne winked at the youth when suddenly her eyes lit up. "There's a new Chinese restaurant opening downtown!"
Katherine couldn't help but laugh. It came freely and unencumbered by the worries of moments before. In all her life, through the years of studying the myths and legends in order to untangle the truth of the Dhase, she had never expected to discover an elder vampire that was so enthralled by Chinese food.
