Mark Levine sat at his desk looking out the big glass windows of the car dealership where he worked. He watched Tony Berti showing a young couple a new SUV, animatedly waving his hands as he spoke. This was Tony's first week working at the dealership, and so Mark was asked by his boss to take him out to lunch to make him feel a little more welcome. Mark didn't really think Tony could feel more comfortable than he already appeared to be. Tony was a brash 25-year old; the kind of guy who thought he was the best at everything, or at least acted like he did. He had a habit of talking too loudly in a way that seemed to accentuate his need for all the attention to be on him all the time. Mark was more of the opinion that quiet confidence outweighed loud confidence, or lack thereof. Either way, he had no problems with taking Tony out to eat. The key to being a good car salesman was being able to handle any type of personality, and Mark had gotten plenty of practice at it over the years.

Tony led the couple past Mark's desk and overheard him tell them he'd get the paperwork. As he approached Mark's desk, Tony pointed at him and flashed him a toothy grin.

"Hey boss," he said loudly enough for the couple at his desk to hear him, "let me just finish up with the Bradleys and then we'll head out, alright?" It was a statement in the form of a question that didn't need to be asked.

"You got it," Mark responded with a wry smile of his own. Tony called everyone at the dealership "boss." Mark wondered if Tony used it because he hadn't yet learned everyone's name or if he just used it all the time regardless. Mark sat back in his chair as Tony finished the paperwork for the Bradleys and led them back out to their new SUV. He grabbed his jacket as Tony came back in.

"Alright boss, where we headed?" Tony asked as Mark led him out to his car.

"Oh a little place in town, McGinty's. You can get whatever you want, but I recommend you at least get the steak fries. They've got the best fries in town," Mark told him as they got into his car.

They arrived at McGinty's Bar and Grill and followed the hostess to a booth along the back wall. The little restaurant was just beginning to fill up for the lunch rush. As they looked over their menus, Mark questioned Tony about his past. Tony told Mark about his college years and his previous work experience. He had played baseball for his college and was supposed to be pretty good before he broke his ankle in his junior year. The complications caused him to miss his entire senior season and so he missed out on any chances of being seen by the pro scouts. Mark mildly wondered if the story was exaggerated. They made some small talk about the state of pro baseball before moving the topic to Tony's previous job.

"Yeah, I worked for one of those call centers for awhile," Tony explained, "selling life insurance. It sucked, but it was a paycheck ya know? I was pretty good at it anyway."

"And now you've moved on to cars?" Mark asked.

"You know it, boss. Figured if I can sell insurance over the phone to old ladies I can sell cars in person to young ones. At least I can show people the car, right?" Tony answered, looking over Mark's shoulder. "Whoa, look at that piece!"

Mark looked over his shoulder to see his sister-in-law, Amy, bringing some meals to another table. "That's my sister-in-law," Mark told Tony.

"No shit! Is she single?" Tony asked, eyeing Amy the whole time. She wore a simple white button down shirt and a tight black skirt that ended a few inches abover her knees. She had her golden hair tied back in a messy ponytail. Mark thought she looked tired.

"Yeah, she is," Mark answered quietly. It had been over a month since his last sexual encounter with Amy. He had come close to having sex with her that night, as he drove her home after a party at his house. His hesitation, and the desire to not do it in his car like some teenager, cost him that chance. She did give him a blowjob for the second time in a week that night, but Mark wondered what it would've been like if he had had sex with her. It might have changed his whole life. After that night, their relationship went back to much the way it was before. They didn't speak about those actions since, and the certain knowing looks were the only thing they shared since then. Mark still thought about her, especially when he was having sex with his wife, Loren. The similarity of their bodies always brought Amy's back into his mind, no matter how much he tried to forget it.

Tony broke his reverie. "Shit man, you gotta hook me up!" he said as Amy approached them.

"Hey Mark," she said as she smiled at him warmly.

"Hi Amy," Mark answered as he smiled back. "Uh, this is Tony Berti. He just started working at the dealership."

"Hi Tony, nice to meet you," Amy said as she held out her hand. "How do you like the dealership?"

"Oh the pleasure is all mine," Tony answered softly as he shook her hand. Mark hadn't heard him talk so quietly in the two days he'd been at the dealership. His abrasive demeanor seemed to disappear as he spoke to Amy. Amy giggled as Tony told her about his first two days at his new job, relating some funny tale about how he has yet to discover where the coffee machine is and asking about her recommendation for the meal. Amy took their orders and soon brought out their meals.

Each time she came to the table, Tony flirted with her. As Amy flirted back, Mark felt a jealousy growing inside of him that he'd never been aware of before. Each time she left, Tony would ask Mark about her. Mark tried to answer each question, but felt reluctant doing so. He never realized how strongly he felt for Amy until another guy was vying for her affections. He tried to shake the feeling, knowing that it was something he could never act on. He was married, to Amy's sister. He loved his wife. His feelings for Amy were totally different. Weren't they?

As Mark returned from the restroom after their meal, he saw Amy hand Tony something before she walked away. Tony's eyes followed her round ass as she did. Mark swallowed hard.

"Ready to go?" he asked as Tony rose from his seat.

"You know it boss," Tony replied. The two walked out of the restaurant and got back into Mark's car.

Mark resisted the urge to bring it up for as long as he could, but soon couldn't wait anymore. "So, you like Amy huh?"

"You know it, boss," Tony said as he laughed. "She is hot."

"Maybe I can hook you guys up," Mark said, secretly searching for what he already thought he knew.

"No need boss," Tony answered smugly. "I got her number already."

"Oh," Mark said, trying to hide the disappointment in his voice. "When did that happen?" He already knew it was what he saw her hand him.

"When you were in the bathroom. She said she has off tomorrow. We'll probably go out."

"Oh, well, let me know how it goes," Mark said, feeling the jealousy build in his stomach again.

"You got it boss," Tony said with a smile on his face that Mark suddenly wanted to wipe off with his fist.

The next week and a half took an emotional toll on Mark like he'd never experienced before. He hadn't seen Amy in that time, but he heard about her from Tony almost every day. Tony had taken her on three dates in that period, and each one left Mark feeling more and more anxious. For the past month and a half, he had been busy trying to forget about his sexual tryst with his wife's little sister. It was hard for him at first, as it seemed his every waking thought was consumed with her. Her smell, her touch, the way she had looked at him that night in the car. He knew that there was something more between them than just sexual attraction. Her words and actions that night in his car told him that. She had been close to having sex with him minutes after apologizing for her actions the week before. Why would she have done that if there wasn't something more she felt for him? The first time, he knew, was about pure sexual energy. The second was more about a bond between two people that was too strong for words. But since that night, he had been busy trying to bury those thoughts. His relationship with Amy had returned to normal. He had mentally recommitted to his wife. Amy wasn't her. He came to grips with that. At least he thought he did.

As Mark entered the dealership one morning, he approached a small group of coworkers who were standing around the coffee machine. As he got closer, he realized Tony was among them. The others seemed to be listening to him as he talked.

"You know it boss," he was saying, "I plan on hittin' that tomorrow night." Mark realized he was talking about Amy. "She hasn't put out yet, but tomorrow night her parents are gonna be gone and she'll be alone at that house for the whole week. I'll fuck that little slut all weekend long!" Tony feigned an ass slapping as he spoke, smacking the air in front of him as the group laughed.

"Hey!" Mark suddenly yelled, startling the group who hadn't noticed his approach. "Watch what you say about her! She's not just some slut you can use to get a good fuck! You hear me!?"

"Hey calm down boss," Tony said as he took a step towards Mark. "I ain't sayin' that. I'm just sayin' she has a hot little ass and I'd like to get in on that." He laughed, and the rest of the group laughed again. Mark realized he had overreacted. He wasn't even sure why he did it. It just came out of him before he thought about it. "You know what I'm sayin' boss. I know you were a stud before you got married, right?" Tony laughed again.

Mark's blood boiled and he wanted to smack Tony. "Yeah...right. Just watch what you do. She's my sister-in-law, man," Mark said quieter, trying to make up for his outburst.

"Hey, no worries boss. I'll treat her right," Tony answered as Mark turned to go to his desk. "Right in that ass!" Tony said to the group. He said it quieter than normal, but still loud enough that Mark heard it. The group laughed again, and Mark ignored them as he sat at his desk. He was worried. That was the first time his emotions had gotten the better of him concerning Amy. He had to be careful. He couldn't let anyone know about his feelings for his wife's 22-year old sister. Mark sat back and took a long, deep breath as he tried to clear his head.

Mark found it hard to focus throughout that day. He constantly found himself thinking about Amy and Tony. Did she really like him? Was he what she really wanted in a guy? He couldn't bring himself to believe that Amy would be into a guy like Tony. But what did he know? Did he really know what kind of guys Amy liked? Until a little over a month ago he never even paid attention to Amy's love life. He knew she had a boyfriend in college, but they had broken up shortly before she graduated. He didn't think she had seen anybody else since then, but he really didn't know. He couldn't help but think that Tony was playing Amy. He had seen the way his demeanor changed that day in the restaurant. He wondered if Amy had seen the real Tony; the garish, overconfident snob that Mark had gotten to know over the past couple of weeks. He was convinced that Amy wouldn't go out with him if she saw his real self. Then again, maybe she would. He probably shouldn't even be thinking about this. It was none of his business. He tried to tell himself that he cared about Amy as a brother would, even though he knew it was deeper than that. All the feelings that Mark had tried to bury deep in the past month concerning Amy came flooding back to him that day. It consumed him.

As Mark sat across from his wife that night eating his dinner, his mind was on anything but what she was saying. All he could think about was Amy.

"So, Amy and Tony are going on their fourth date tomorrow night," he heard Loren say, snapping him out of his daydream.

"Uh yeah, Tony said something about it at work today," Mark replied, feeling the knot return to his stomach. "So does she really like him?"

"Yeah I think so," Loren answered. "She says he's pretty sweet. I don't know if she's gaga over him yet, but she seems to enjoy hanging out with him."

"What do you mean, 'she's not gaga' over him?" Mark's heart stood still.

"Well she says she likes him, but she's not sure if it's going anywhere," Loren told him, "you know?"

"Yeah," Mark answered pensively. He felt a little relieved. He knew he wanted that relationship to fail. He also knew why.

"I don't think she knows what she wants at this point. But hopefully she'll find out. Oh hey babe, I have to get up early tomorrow to take my parents to the airport so don't let me forget." "What time is their flight?" Mark asked.

"7 am sharp," Loren replied, "so I'm getting up at 4, ok? Don't let me sleep through the alarm!"

"Ok hon," Mark answered with a smile as Loren got up from the table.

"I hope they have a good time next week," Loren said as she washed her dish in the sink.

"Yeah, me too," Mark responded.

Loren and Amy's parents were going on a week long cruise for their anniversary. But Mark's mind was far from their cruise. All he could think about were Tony's words that day about how he would finally get to nail Amy since she'd have the house to herself for the entire week. Mark sat at the table, lost in thought for a long while. He didn't even hear Loren as she left the room and went upstairs. Mark had the unique insight to know both what Tony wanted and what he thought Amy wanted, and he didn't believe they were the same thing. He at least hoped they weren't.

Mark spent a restless night with thoughts about Amy constantly dancing through his head. He even dreamt about her; a strange dream with Amy as a passanger on a plane that was taken over by terrorists. He awoke in a cold sweat and chided himself again. He knew he had to stop thinking about Amy, even if his subconscious wouldn't. He awoke again a few hours later as Loren's alarm went off at 4 am. He sleepily shared a few words with his wife as she got out of bed, then rolled over and fell back asleep until his alarm woke him a couple of hours later.

Mark spent the day at work unable to concentrate. He watched Tony all day, but spoke to him sparingly. He was consumed with jealousy for the single man who had the freedom to pursue Amy. He tried anything to forget about it, but it was all he thought about. His mind was a spider web of unspeakable thoughts; his heart a lump of melting clay. Mark watched Tony as he prepared to leave, unsure of what, if anything, he should say or do. As Tony walked past Mark's desk on his way out, Mark noticed he didn't even look over at him. Mark's heart was filled with disdain as he watched Tony get into his car and drive off, no doubt to prepare for his date with Amy.

Mark's shift ended a few hours after Tony's, and he anxiously drove home after clocking out. He seemed to be on autopilot the whole drive. As he entered his house, Loren was just finishing up her dinner.

"Hey, babe," she said as he hugged her, "I made some chicken but I couldn't wait for you. I'm beat from being up so early, so I'm hitting the hay early tonight." She smiled as she spoke.

"Ok honey," Mark smiled back as she gave him a quick kiss and walked up the stairs. He walked into the kitchen and found his plate of breaded chicken on the counter. As he popped it into the microwave, he checked the answering machine. There was only one message.

"Hey Lor, just wanted to see how Mom and Dad got off. I'm going out with Tony at 7, so if you get this before then just gimme a call quick. He's taking me to Mendy's, by the way."

Amy's voice was like an arrow through Mark's soul. He got his chicken from the microwave and sat down at the table. He picked at his food as his mind drifted to Amy and Tony's date. Mendy's was an upscale restaurant on the edge of town. Mark had been there a few times before. He looked at his watch. It was 7:27. Amy and Tony were probably finishing up their soup right about now. Mark sighed and pushed back his chair. He looked to the ceiling and rubbed his eyes. This was crazy. His wife lay upstairs in their bed right now, and all he could think about was her sister. He loved his wife, and for the past month he had recommitted himself to her after his encounter with Amy. But since Tony started seeing Amy, all of the emotions he had tried to bury came flooding back. He knew he didn't have a relationship with Amy. They had shared a moment, but it ended there. At least he thought it had.

Mark got up from the table and quickly walked to the door. He put his jacket on and went out to his car. He got in, started the engine, and pulled out of his driveway. He barely knew what he was doing. Was he really going to spy on his sister-in-law? For most of the 30 minute drive, Mark questioned his sanity. Why was he doing this? What did he really expect to happen? He didn't know.

As he pulled into the parking lot at Mendy's, Mark searched through the high windows. There, sitting at a table right next to the window were Amy and Tony. They seemed to be engaged in some light conversation as they finished their meals. Mark found a parking space that gave him a view of their table and backed his car in. He mentally wrestled with himself about what he was doing there. Every logical bone in his body told him to leave, go back to his house and get in bed next to his wife. He tried to push all of his thoughts away as he watched Amy and Tony talk and laugh. A familiar feeling crept into the pit of his stomach.

After 20 minutes, Amy and Tony got up from their table and walked out of the restaurant. Mark crouched low, hoping they wouldn't see him. For the first time that night, he got a good look at Amy as she walked out the front door of the restaurant. She was wearing a sleeveless kelly green dress that hugged her body tight. Black nylon stockings covered her shapley legs. As Mark walked up behind her, he placed his jacket over her shoulders on what was becoming a cool night. She gave him a warm smile as he did, and they walked to his car with his arm around her waist. Mark felt the knot tighten. He contemplated leaving right then and going back home, but deep down he knew that wasn't going to happen. He couldn't see where Tony's car was parked and he lost sight of Amy and him for a minute while his heart leaped into his throat. Then, a pair of headlights shone throughout the parking lot and Mark picked up Tony's car as it pulled onto the road. Mark started up his car and pulled out after him.

Mark assumed Tony and Amy were headed to her house, now empty, as Tony had talked about. He followed Tony's car at a distance, and when he realized that his assumptions were right, he let their car get even further ahead. Mark's mind played the scenerios out in his head as he drove. How would he be able to follow Tony down a residential street without them knowing it? He made the decision that he'd have to get there first if he wanted to go unnoticed. He turned off at the next exit, deciding that he'd have to risk taking some back roads in order to do it. He sped down the road, imagining the conversation if he got pulled over.

"Well, Officer, I was just trying to beat my coworker to my sister-in-law's house because I'm spying on them because I have feelings for my wife's sister." He prayed he didn't get pulled over.

Mark arrived at Amy's house 20 minutes later. Tony's car was nowhere in sight. Had they changed plans? Were they not coming here after all? What was he doing here? Mark parked his car across from Amy's house and turned off the ignition. He checked his watch as questions flooded his brain. Then, suddenly, headlights shone in the distance. As the car came down the street, Mark realized it was them. Fear suddenly gripped him. What if he was caught? How would he explain this? What was he doing there!?

Mark crouched down as low as he could as Tony's car pulled into the driveway. He watched as Tony and Amy each got out of the car and slowly walked towards the door. What was he going to do if they went inside the house, peep through the windows from the bushes? Mark silently cursed himself for the hundredth time that night. Why was he torturing himself like this?
