We have many laws that I just don't understand in our country. And why do we have these laws? Because some "God" loving legislators want to protect us from ourselves; heck I bet there are some that would love to even shut this site down to make sure we don't pollute our minds with evil and impure thought. They have been doing it since law began. The funny thing I have recognized if we live in a free society where church and state is supposed to be separate then why are most laws based on "Christian" theology?
Why must there be a law preventing prostitution? Most every person on this continent will engage in carnal pleasures in their lifetime. Why can't a woman or man for that matter make that their profession without worrying about being arrested? Especially if they are really good at it. If it was legal then the "workers" could have benefits, be tested on regular basis, have licenses, get off the streets, not be endangered by pimps and a whole whack of other pluses compared to what they have now.
I know I am going to hear the comment about that I am a chauvinist and why should a woman sell herself and use her body like that? Well let me tell you something people I hate to tell you but ever single one of us is a whore all ready. You may not spread your legs or give head for money but you are giving up something of yourself to make the old mighty dollar. If you work in a factory you give up your body by working it to the ground everyday. If you are in business chances are you are giving up a little piece of your soul to earn that extra dollar to make sure little "Jamie" or "Roy" get the best of everything. You have to work to survive and if you are good at computers, music, art, painting, shoveling shit, putting out fires, taking care of people or any other thing why should you benefit more in life than the person who is good at sex and wants to make that their chosen profession? If it is legalized then it would come down to choice rather than a desperate act to make it.
If a person wants to use their body and it is between to adults I see no reason why money can't be exchanged. Both parties know what they are doing as adults but once again are wonderful government makes sure we protect ourselves from ourselves.
Another one that bothers me; and I know this is going to cause some controversy, is drugs. I say legalize all drugs. If some jackass wants to stick a needle in their arm and get high and throw their life away it is just plain Darwinism. I could care less if "Bob" wants to snort up his whole life savings and crash and burn. See in the end it is "Bob's" choice to ruin his life. Booze is legal, and we have alcoholics that can't control their urges. Drugs are not legal but we still have drug addicts! Just because it is illegal doesn't stop the doing or selling or death that occurs.
If we legalized and taxed the snot out of drugs the government could make sure of content (that way there would be less OD's), they could take that money and put it back into the education of our children, and some of the monies could be used for treatment centers. Let the junkies pay for their own problems instead of taking it out of my money.
Think of the money saved in just the legal system alone. There would be less court time for possession. It would leave space in our jail system for the harden criminals instead of letting them get pushed out the back gates after spending minimal time in prison. The rapists and murders and child molesters could actually do full sentences.
It would free police up to take care of more important crimes. Now don't get me wrong I know crimes like petty theft would probably increase for a short while to feed the drug users habits but being an addict is not an excuse to break the law. If you do a crime you won't be allowed to use the excuse "I was high and didn't know what I was doing" that law will be instantly be put in place.
I don't get high and I don't use prostitutes but I do believe those are choices as an adult you should be able to make without the fear of criminal conviction. If they legalized it tomorrow I am pretty sure there isn't going to be a mad dash to the local dealer so you can stick a needle in your arm or hit the pipe! I know my life would be lived pretty much the way it is now, well maybe not because our governments would actually have a bit of money from the taxes they could collect from these activities and put it to better use like protecting us from the real evils that are out there!

Anonymousover 17 years agoHolland has legalised Marijuana, and has fewer users compared to the UK where it is illegal.
Legalising drugs would reduce crimes such as petty theft, commutted to earn money to pay Dealers.
I read somewhere that Cocaine is cheaper to produce than Sugar, the cost is due to cost of smuggling it to the customer etc.
Prohibition only works when all of society backs it. as long as a sizable minority wants drugs or commitment free sex, you will never stop them by legislation.

batjac69over 17 years agoHey Joe, why not ask where were these Christians and their laws in China? India? Africa? As they have the same laws you evoke are Christian based. The thing you and other ignorant thinkers never comprehend is these laws are universal laws meant to protect societies from having to raise bastards whose genes are unknown, so in time actual family members would be having sex unknown and having retarded and genetically sick children.
Now you don't contemplate that, but history does. You can sit in your porn sack which hard working people have built for you in America, but just contemplate your little brainless world for a moment.
In a generation of your world, you would have a bunch of psychotic children with no respect for women and no ability to raise children with principles.....the kinds of principles which societies need to build things and make things.
Your mob would be retards, sickly, no societal structures like food production to manufacturing which are the basis for an organized defense.
Now let us return to non Christian China with over a billion crowded souls looking for what they do not have right now, food, water, natural resources and females as the Chicoms aborted a majority of the women 20 years ago....and here you sit Joe with lots of land, resources, food and women.

Next time you decide to pick on Christians or any other group why not actually open a book on history to gain some knowledge instead of a porn site as you have just been exposed as ignorant.

KOLKOREover 17 years agoI actually am already very careful when I see the ubiquitous drunk driver on Saturday nights. Now, I still don’t understand the logic “of we have already a known problem, now why not add more to it”.
BTW, still have not heard a response to my challenge, neither from you nor from the writer. Will you put your family in the streets of a confined area to TEST the safety of this brilliant proposal?

madengineer3over 17 years agoI strongly agree and partially disagree with the writer.
First the disagreement:
As a partial answer to one of the rhetorical questions asked in the essay I would have to say that the reason that many of our laws are based upon Judeo-Christian values is the following.
When a person truly believes somthing that belief changes the believer in fundamental ways. To be intellectually honest that person must act upon what they believe.
It is this belief that has led to laws against child labor, slavery (which is still common in some Muslim countries) and has given women a foundation for legal equality as found in western societies. This is good.
I agree with the writer that the laws regarding prostitution are wrong for the following reasons:
1) Being illegal it means that safety for the prostitute cannot be assured.
2) Being illegal means that health inspection (that should be a very regular part of the working prostitute's activity) is not stressed.
3) Being illegal feeds cash to organized crime and keeps police from doing real police work.
I hope the writer continues his work in this direction.

Anonymousover 17 years agoConsider that a generation or so ago, this site would have gotten its owners and some of its visitors put away (and that there are plenty of people who still think they should be) and that writing about anal sex, incest (still grosses me out), miscegenation (the redneck legal term for interracial sex), B&D (CBT also gerosses me out) and same-sex sex and marriage (to quote from Robin Williams from the trailer for his upcoming move, "Anybody who's been married knows it's always the same sex!") probably could have gotten you arrested in most states. It's likely that some of this stuff you write will be changed as it becomes better understood and accepted.
We just need to be sure that they are victimless activities that only offend but don't actually damage those not willingly participating in the them, either directly or indirectly.
The reason for a law in American should not be that the Bible (or the Koran or anything else) says not to do something but that doing something damages people or society in real ways and not just their sensibilities. Legalizing and regulating prostitution seems like the best way to take away the victims and damaages (diseases) and make it beneficial (those folks who earn six figures lying down would be more likely to pay taxes on the loot, for example).
