But something happened when I did. I felt a million pricks upon my skin, as if I were being flayed alive. Blinding light flashed in my eyes and I wondered what was happening. I heard screaming and wasn't quite certain if it was Vanessa or myself making the noise. The pain became so intense that I could do nothing more than black out.
