Mum was beginning to wonder where this was leading, but it appeared that Rachel didn't want to push her luck too far at this stage, and wisely put the ball in mum's court, because her next words were:
"It's been so nice meeting you, I've really enjoyed this evening, but I need to be getting along. I'll let you have my number, and if you're at a loose end over a weekend when your son isn't coming to visit you, and you fancy a few drinks together, give me a ring."
"I will," mum said happily.
