Click hereI met with Grace just once to sort some of the house contents. She apologised and said it was the biggest mistake of her life. She had insisted I didn't go to jail and was trying her best to avoid any repercussions for me. She had also agreed to the annulment. I shrugged, not quite able to bring myself to thank her.
We said goodbye and she wished me all the best. I thought she looked a bit lost as she walked away. It would have been cruel to mention that I had a date arranged with her cousin Emily that very night.
I was back in the pub with the lads, we agreed things were working out reasonably OK. Maybe I wouldn't need to run, and us men can fight back after all. Jake proposed a toast:
"Long live the revolution!"
I would love to see a 4th chapter, a happy ending chapter as a contrast to all of the other outcomes
Again, I find this set of stories intriguing. You picked a fictional world and stuck to it. For those nit picking the setting, it's funny that you can except movies with an alternate world, regardless of how much they make sense, but you can't in a story. Relax and just enjoy it. I will agree that in said world you would be hard pressed to find a guy who'd willingly get married short of the prenuptial route. However, I'd disagree that a man gets nothing from marriage. Kids and 25 years bliss, as in the first two stories, you've gotten a lot from it. Now, before you lay into me, I'm not suggesting you suck it up and accept a cheating spouse or that you shouldn't leave her. I'm just saying that unless she had a motivation other than love to marry you, didn't have kids, and was unfaithful from day 1, you did in fact get something from your marriage at one point.
Just because 70+% of women file for divorce doesn't mean they are somehow evil or in the wrong. Life is more complicated than that. Note 29% of married men have at least one extramarital affair by their 50s. 19% of married women by the same age, though up from 13% in the mid 90s, while men have remained consistent in their adultery rate the last 25+ years. Interestingly women do tend to have longer affairs when they have them, average 6 months, in part because their rationale for having an affair is quite different from men. I do agree that a society envisioned in these stories would be dysfunctional to the max. Not going to happen. I can imagine in the future that many marriages will have prenuptial clauses for adultery. Remember though adultery is not the leading cause of divorce. #2 or #3 depending on age group. Surprisingly the highest incidences of divorce are in the first couple years. Then the famous 7 to 10 years. Then gray divorces which have doubled as parents go empty nest.
Women initiate 80% of divorces, no fault laws are everywhere and almost a whole generation of MGTOW(men going their own way) - this is already the state of things - there already hasn't been anything to gain from marriage for men for 20 years! Do you honestly think any man would get married in a future like that, there is already nothing in a marriage for men, if these imaginary laws were real, how would women get men to marry them, I understand it is fiction but still even made up stuff should make some sense. If anything it would be men who could have other women - how else are men going to be suckered into marriage?
I would have felt better about this story if you had left the ending a little more open. Instead of a sarcastic toast about a revolution, how about finding some steel for your spine and actually planning and working on one. Maybe rediscover that being a man actually means something.
There's no such thing as equality and there's certainly no one seeking it. Every group you can think of has only one thing as a goal: Superiority above all others. Everybody wants to be king.
