At that point I opened the small jewelry box revealing the ring I had bought. It was white gold with two diamonds on either side of a larger amethyst. The stone matched the one that I had given her in the hospital exactly one year ago. Penny's eyes filled with tears.
"Oh yes, my Ricky. I will marry you," she cried out. All three women now had tears dropping down their cheeks as I took the ring out and placed it on her left hand. Our families celebrated the day with us. It truly was a merry Christmas. We continued to basically live out of my room for the rest of the school year. The following summer we both got jobs and saved up our money. That was when we told our parents that we would be renting an apartment together when we returned to school. There were no protests.
I went on to graduate a semester before Penny. Six days after she graduated we were married. Up until then the two best days of my life were the first day we made love and the day she agreed to be my wife. The day that she said "I do" made three pivotal and joyous days of my life. For a while I thought there would never be another day that could match those three but I was wrong. I know now as I stand in the hospital room with my wife that this is another blessed day. You see, I have just had my first daughter placed into my arms. Penny is smiling as she watches the tears of joy drop from my eyes as I gaze on this precious bundle. Life with Penny is a wonderful thing.

Anonymous3 days agoFor those with comments tearing apart Penny for her depression dealing with the loss of her father, at least she had an excuse and a person in a fictional story. The comments were written by REAL people with no reasonable excuse. Who's the bitch now!

Anonymousover 1 year agoSounds like Penny has some developmental issues. Was she waiting for the short bus when she got mad at the mc because his dad was alive? To the comment below, yeah love can make you irrational. But not soo f'n dumb that you get that mad at someone because their parents are alive, not at 17 or 18. That's just absurd. Hopefully his grandparents are already dead or she might really lose it huh?
Anonymousover 1 year agoWow some really rough comments before. Yeah Penny was a bitch to the MC in their senior year of high school, but she had just seen her father die. Besides she was in love with the MC but they never got together and she thought he felt she was like a sister. Her grief pushed him away. Get over it. She was like 17. And she was in thr car with a girlfriend. So what if she dated some jock in high school. When the MC says the last time he spoke to her was at the bus stop. That was like 18 months before her accident. Personally as a friend, when been treated like dirt as she dumped on me, I would have had it out with her and eventually told her how I felt. Would have at least tried to comfort her after probably venting an argument. She had anger and grief and envy and unrequited love trapped deep inside her. She took it out on the MC. Shit happens. People are complex. She got her memories back and realized what a witch she had been. He still loved her. People are emotional and sometimes irrational. Love is one of the most irrational emotions.
