Hello again readers!! I know I'm a dreadful person and you all likely hate me for taking so long for this update. Outback Australia is a difficult place to continue writing a series...but I'm home now! I'll be juggling work and somewhat of a social life so I can't promise you speedy updates, however I can ensure you that I will definitely continue both of my stories until they are complete so please be patient while I write whenever I can. Hope you enjoy this one. As always, comments are much appreciated. Thank you to all the lovely readers who sent through their messages of encouragement, plus the ones who told me to get a bloody move on ;) they've all come through to me now so I apologise again for the delay!

"I'll take it."

Paul stood confidently at the door of Nathan's study. He had a black leather briefcase in his hand, which held ten million dollars cash.

"No, don't be ridiculous. I'll take the money." Nathan sat in his chair, dark rings surrounding his heavy eyes and his shoulders hunched over from a mixture of exhaustion and worry.

"Nathan, you have over twenty messages on your answering machine from clients and two deals that were supposed to be finalised yesterday."

"Business can wait until Kailee is safe," Nathan rubbed his eyes wearily.

"Your staff members are going to get suspicious - you've barely taken a sick day in the last four years and even then, you still work from home."

"I don't care."

"Nath, just let me take the money - I can do this..."

"I said I'll take it," Nathan said icily.

"When are you going to start trusting me?" Paul hissed angrily.

Nathan's eyes widened in surprise. "What?"

"You heard me." Paul took a few steps forward. "Ever since the accident you've never given me any responsibility, Nath. Not once have you let me have any control over the business."

Nathan shook his head blankly. "Dad left me in charge of the business...I didn't think you were interested..."

"You never asked. You treat Kailee and me like we're still kids."

Nathan looked shocked at his comment. "I'm just looking after you both. Just like Mum and Dad wanted..."

"That was four years ago, Nath. Sure, Kailee probably needed some guidance when she was younger. Hell, I probably did too. We're adults now; it's not your responsibility to watch over us anymore."

Nathan remained silent, taking in his brother's words carefully. He hadn't realised Paul was interested in managing the business; but then he had never really taken the time to learn what careers his siblings were interested in. Paul was right; he still saw them as children.

"Let me take the money," Paul said softly, "it doesn't matter which one of us drops it there, just as long as it gets done they'll release her."

Nathan considered the option for a few minutes, and then sighed deeply.

"You promise you won't try anything?"

Paul nodded eagerly. "I won't do a thing. Not until Kailee's safe back home. I swear it."

"So what do you do when you're not kidnapping rich women?"

Perhaps it was the triumph she'd felt in the tub earlier that morning, or maybe she'd just decided to give Jakob a second chance, but Kailee was feeling rather chatty once she'd returned to her room.

Jakob looked surprised by her query at first, but the thrill of having her speak to him must have taken over, because he grinned and answered her enthusiastically.

"Oh you know; the usual. Thieving, pillaging, plotting for world domination."

His eyes twinkled as he sat casually on the bed beside her. Kailee was wrapped snugly in a fluffy white bath robe, her hair still damp down her back. She couldn't help but smile at his words.

"No, really," she cocked her head to one side, "I'm curious."

"Hmm," Jakob's forehead creased slightly as he thought, "Well, I used to play squash quite regularly."

"Huh," Kailee looked at him in surprise, "I never would have pegged you for a squash man."

"You play?" his soft eyes lit up in excitement.

"Since I was eleven. A body like this doesn't come naturally, you know." she winked at him and caught a nervous smile on the edge of his lips. Too easy. "It's a shame you don't have a court here; it would have been a much more enjoyable way to pass the time."

"Oh I fear it would be an embarrassing game for me, Miss Brooks. I'm completely out of practice."

She bumped her shoulder against his teasingly, "I'm sure you're just being modest, Jake...I think you could take me."

His face flushed slightly at her flirtation and he shook his head in disagreement.

"So what's for breakfast, anyway? I'm starving." Kailee clutched her stomach dramatically and pouted for effect.

"Well, ah, actually..." Jakob bit his lip uncomfortably. "Dominic has requested you have breakfast with him."

Kailee stood abruptly and glared down at Jakob who was now avoiding eye contact. What a way to ruin her mood.

"We both know Dominic never asks for anything," she growled. "Let me guess; either I be a good girl and come along nicely...or he'll drag me there kicking and screaming?"

"Ah, you'll have to excuse him - he's got a long history of getting what he wants."

"You mean taking what he wants," Kailee grumbled.

Jakob sighed and leaned back on his elbows. "You know he's not a completely terrible person once you get to know him. Something about you seems to bring out the worst in him."

"Ha! Maybe it's because I don't let him walk all over me like the rest of you do! Thankfully I won't be here long enough to get to know him any more than I already have," Kailee huffed.

She was pacing the room back and forth trying not to let herself implode from the anxiety that was fast growing within her. She'd managed to escape the man once this morning, but she didn't know if she was cunning enough to slip out of his grasp a second time.

"You know, Jake, you seem like a nice guy. I don't understand how you got here; working for an asshole like Dominic." For once, she was speaking honestly. It just didn't seem to add up that the kind man in front of her was wrapped up in this mess.

Jakob sat in silence for a moment, deep in thought. "Sit down; I want to tell you a story."

Kailee gave him a strange look. "What kind of story?"

"Just sit," he said firmly, "if you're lucky it might even delay your breakfast."

At that remark, Kailee took her seat immediately. "Once upon a time?" she raised her eyebrows questioningly.

Jakob chuckled and moved to a cross-legged position on the bed.

"Yeah, all right then. Once upon a time there was a Russian couple desperate to escape their home country. The husband had found himself on the wrong side of some bad people; so he fled with his wife and their six year old son. They didn't really know where they were fleeing to at first and it took them months to secure a safe crossing, but they wound up a few hundred kilometres away from your fancy little suburb, believe it or not."

Kailee rolled her eyes, but nodded for him to continue.

"They turned over a new leaf there; the man was a skilled bookkeeper and managed to find work for one of the wealthiest households in the city. His wife was intelligent, but she struggled to find work because of her poor English skills, so she looked after the house and their son while learning the language.

"It took only seven months for their dark past to catch up to them. The boy slept in the bedroom closest to the front door of their house and he woke as soon as he heard the lock break. He slipped under his bed as heavy footsteps made their way to his parents' bedroom. He waited there in the dark for what felt like hours, until he saw the feet hurriedly pass his doorway again and out the front door. Only then did he crawl out from under the bed and run to his parents. He found them in their bed, eyes closed peacefully; their throats had been slit in their sleep.

"The boy was young, afraid and alone. He took a loaf of bread from the kitchen and the cash from his father's wallet and he ran as fast and as far as his legs could take him. It was just as well, too, because the men returned and burned the house to the ground."

"Where did he go?" Kailee whispered.

"Well he was barely seven years old, only spoke a few phrases of English and knew no one. He stumbled upon a wealthy area of town and lived on the streets, stealing whatever he could. He kept in the shadows constantly, worried the same people who murdered his parents would come for him. He trusted no one."

The room was heavy with silence.

"And then?" Kailee urged.

Jakob shrugged nonchalantly. "It's not my place to tell you the rest of the story, I'm afraid."

Kailee frowned. She hated cliff hangers and aside from that, Jakob still hadn't explained to her how he'd become associated with Dominic.

"So you think you can make me respect Dominic's decision because of a sad story?" Kailee spoke softly but her eyes were narrowed slightly. "It doesn't excuse what he's doing to me. What you're both doing."

"Maybe not," Jakob nodded. "But I just thought you should know that he's a man who was born into a violent world. It takes him a long time to see the good in people; he always assumes the worst. But when it comes to family, to his closest friends - he'll do just about anything."

"Yeah and meanwhile, the rest of us get screwed over." Kailee brushed her fingertips through her hair, which had dried soft and wavy. "I think it's completely dishonourable that after all that happened to him, he pursued a life of crime. He should have worked his way up to become a man his parents would be proud of."

Jakob's eyes glinted knowingly, "Maybe he did."

Kailee gave him a confused look, but before she could ask what he meant, Jakob stood and collected something from under the bed.

"I've got something that might cheer you up." He held out a shopping bag with a designer label written on the side. New clothes. If ever there was a mood lifter, this was it.

Kailee took it from him, but masked her excitement from him. She carefully pulled out the items: three sets of lace underwear and silk pyjamas from Victoria's Secret, a pair of strappy sandals and a gorgeous white summer dress with dark blue flowers along the bottom hem. They were all designer brands and, by the looks of it, latest season items.

"However did you get such good taste in fashion, Jake?" she raised an eyebrow at him suspiciously.

"We might be criminals, but we still have style," he grinned at her then slipped out of the room so she could change.

Kailee let the bathrobe slip from her shoulders and slowly slid into the lace underwear. She had a similar pair at home, but these were a deep blood red colour rather than the plain white that she owned. The matching bra was a perfect fit and conveniently had removable straps so she could wear the dress without straps showing. She did the clasp at her back and was surprised at how beautifully it fit her breasts, pushing them up ever so slightly, the soft lace feeling luxurious against her skin. She collected the white dress from the bed and pulled it gracefully over her head. The material was silky and fell in drapes at her mid-thigh. It was classier than her usual choice of dress. She often went for either a low back or a daring front, but this had neither. It had a sweetheart neckline and a zipped back, but it sat snugly against her figure and the white contrasted nicely against her tanned skin. Lastly, she slipped on the shoes - they were a size too big, but she barely noticed once she'd tightened the straps. She silently wished she had a mirror so she could check her reflection and perhaps even fix her hair, but then chastised herself for wanting to look good for her captors. If anything, she should want to look her worst.

When Jakob opened the door, his eyes widened and trailed her from head to toe. It turned out she didn't need a mirror after all; if Jakob's goofy smile was anything to go by, she looked fabulous.

He led her down the bland hallways to a new door she hadn't yet come across. Her stomach dropped at the thought of seeing Dominic again. She wasn't sure how long she could keep him away from her. At the same time, though, she also felt an odd anticipation that she couldn't seem to dull.

As the door opened, a blast of sunlight fell upon them and Kailee scrunched her eyes closed so she wasn't blinded. It seemed like weeks since she'd seen daylight and she struggled to open her eyes to more than a squint. She couldn't even see who reached out and grabbed her hand, but by the size of the palm and the strength of the grip, she knew it could only be one person.

"You look stunning," Dominic's voice held a hint of desire and she blinked up to meet his eyes. They were black with a raw hunger and her stomach swirled in fear.

"The moment I saw that dress on the rack, I knew it would look perfect on you."

Kailee threw an irritated glance back at Jakob who shrugged innocently before ducking back inside.

"Had I known you were the one who chose it, I would have worn the pyjamas instead," Kailee said moodily, pulling her hand out of his grasp.

"And if I'd known you were going to be so spiteful, I wouldn't have bought you any clothes at all," Dominic retorted, bringing his hand to her lower back. She quickly moved away, breaking the contact.

"Well maybe if you stopped buying so many designer clothes you wouldn't have the need to ransom off women."

"Now where would be the fun in that?" Dominic winked at her and her stomach did a little somersault. This playful side to him was something new and she couldn't help thinking what he'd looked like as a child. What an awful childhood it must have been. She'd lost so much herself; but to have everything torn away at such a young age - she couldn't imagine it. She quickly brushed the thought from her mind as his hand again found her back, turning her towards a table set for two under the shade of a large umbrella. There was a pot of tea, finger sandwiches, fruit and a plate of scones. Kailee couldn't help but laugh out loud at the ridiculousness of it all.

"You know," she said as Dominic took his seat, "it's usually customary to take a girl on a date before you take her to bed."

"Sit!" Dominic growled impatiently and Kailee took her seat reluctantly. "This isn't a date. In fact, you can thank Jakob for this little excursion - he's the one who said you could do with some fresh air."

Kailee made a mental note to thank Jakob for the suggestion later.

"And here I was thinking you had a romantic side to you," she said snidely.

"Well if it means I'm entitled to bed you afterwards, why not?" he smiled to himself and began pouring a cup of tea. "Now are you planning on eating anytime soon or do I need to find another way of shutting you up?" he raised an amused eyebrow at her and then chuckled as Kailee quickly began piling fruit onto her plate.

She bit into a portion of apple and sighed as the sweet juices filled her mouth. Dominic sat quietly, sipping at his tea and watching her devour the fruit. She didn't realise how quickly she was eating until she found herself refilling her empty plate. She took a moment to look around at the backyard as she ate. It was mainly red dirt and patchy grass, but an old shed to the left caught her eye or, more specifically, the shiny green motorbike parked up next to it.

"That your bike?" she asked casually, not moving her eyes from the vehicle. It wasn't quite close enough for her to make out the number plate.

"Why? Do you fancy a ride?" Kailee turned back to meet Dominic's intense stare.

"With you? No thanks." She focused on the bunch of fresh grapes on her plate, not wanting him to notice how flustered his gaze was making her.

"I don't need your consent." The playfulness had disappeared from his tone and she knew his patience was wearing thin. "Come here."

"I'm not done with my food." Her tone was just as cold as his.

"Come. Here."

She'd had enough of his demands and there was no way she was letting him touch her again. She gave him an icy stare. "No."

His jaw tightened. "You're still mine for two more nights!" he barked.

Kailee fumed inwardly. She flung the grape she was about to eat straight at the infuriating man sitting across from her. It soared across the table and bounced off his forehead before rolling onto the floor.

Dominic's expression changed from one of fury to complete disbelief. Kailee herself was even shocked by her reaction. They stared at each other in silence for a moment and she knew Dominic's mind was ticking over, considering how to react to the immature act. He stood slowly and she bit her lip anxiously as he approached her. She kept her head down and he towered over her.

"Did you just throw a grape at me?"

Kailee mustered all the courage she could find and lifted her chin arrogantly.

"I don't belong to anyone," she said through gritted teeth.

She couldn't read his expression, but based on his clenching hands, he was not a happy man.

"Stand up," he ordered.

She slowly pushed her chair back and stood begrudgingly, her heart pounding through her chest. She turned to face him with her back against the table.

Before she had a chance to speak, Dominic's hands were around her waist and he hoisted her effortlessly onto the table, loudly shoving the plates and cutlery out of the way. Kailee fearfully sucked in a sharp breath, bracing herself for punishment.

Instead, Dominic's hands came softly onto her knees, stilling them from the shaking she hadn't even noticed they were doing.

"Now, listen carefully," he lifted her chin upward with his index finger. "You might not belong to me, but make no mistake, until your ransom is paid, you are mine." One hand began caressing her inner thigh and a small shudder ran through her body. "And when you're safe and sound back home sitting in your warm bed all alone, you'll wish you were still mine."

Kailee opened her mouth to protest, but his hand came to the back of her head and he pressed his lips forcefully against hers. Her thoughts were lost as he devoured her mouth. His stubble grazed the skin on her cheeks and chin and his tongue tangled intimately with hers. He was an incredible kisser and she found herself squeezing her legs together in an attempt to control the growing heat evident there. As if he could read her mind, Dominic's knee suddenly came between her thighs and wedged them apart easily. His fingers slipped playfully beneath the band of her underwear, making her moan deep into his mouth. He dipped one finger into her folds, sliding it gently through her growing wetness.

"Tell me you don't want this," he whispered hotly in her ear.

But she struggled to find the words as he trailed her panties down her long legs and deposited them on the floor. She wasn't sure what she wanted anymore.

Kailee looked up at the dark eyes above her and saw a craving in them that matched her own desire. The sound of his zip brought her eyes to focus on his jeans which were now below his waist. His gorged erection bounced free from its restraints.

Aside from her growing arousal, she had a fleeting moment of panic. She made a desperate attempt to retreat, shuffling backwards on the table, but Dominic quickly caught hold of her ankles and slid her back towards him, spreading her legs and positioning himself between them. He guided his length past her bunched skirt and to her entrance, placing just enough pressure to tease her without fully entering. His rough thumb found her damp core and she cried out, letting herself fall back onto the table with her legs dangling freely over the edge. Taking a firm grasp onto her hips, Dominic slipped himself gradually into her, and then pulled out at an excruciatingly slow pace. She shivered at the sensation.
