I smiled at the supposedly mild mannered librarian and shook my head. "No, you can keep that. A souvenir if you like." I kissed her one last time and left the store.
After a few blocks in the gentle mist of early evening, I reached into my coat pocket and drew out the simple gold chain. There was indeed a locket attached to it. Opening it, revealed a picture of Stacey with her pet dog.
"You are good at the innocent routine aren't you?" I laughed out loud as I realized that I'd been taken completely in this last twist of events.
