Note: This story takes place after the events of Resident Evil 2 the game before Claire leaves to find her brother, Chris

*****

Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Sherry Birkin were upon an escape train speeding away from the exploding destruction of the underground Umbrella lab on the outskirts of Raccoon City.

The self-destruct sequence was automatically triggered to cover Umbrella's tracks as they created the G-Virus that caused an outbreak in the city.

Leon arrived in the city as it was his first day on the job with the Raccoon City Police Department. Things...obviously didn't quite go as he imagined. The police department had been overrun with zombies and other virus-mutated creatures.

It was with the help of Claire that he managed to escape the horrors of the city. Claire happened to arrive in town looking for her brother, Chris Redfield. She found his journal in the STARS office in RPD but no Chris. However, his entries left a clue as to his whereabouts and what would be Claire's next destination.

During their escape from the nightmare, Leon and Claire found Sherry roaming the police station and there was not a second thought to protecting her and taking her to safety. With Sherry's mother's death at the hands of her monster-mutated father, Claire's natural instincts as a caregiver took over.

Before leaving the laboratory, Claire risked her very life to create a vaccine for the young girl as she was infected by her monster-father as he attempted to implant embryos into her.

And here the trio was, hearts racing as they narrowly escaped the clutches of the reaper. The train's destination coordinates were locked in and couldn't be altered but anywhere that wasn't Raccoon City would suffice.

Another blast from the lab sent shockwaves that rocked the train sending the three tumbling to the floor. Claire, with Sherry's cure in hand, lost it in the fall.

"Get down!" Leon shouted as he leapt upon the girls to shield them from harm.

Once the train's rattles subsided, Claire scooted across the train's chilled floor and snatched the vaccine before it rolled away.

Leon scooped Sherry into his arms and hurried her to a nearby bench.

He looked upon the young one with his blue irises that shook with concern. "She's unconscious!"

Claire lifted the syringe for him to see. "I have the antidote!"

She scampered over to the child and administered it to her arm with haste.

They both locked their eyes upon her knowing she would wake. She had to!

The blonde kid was wearing Claire's pink jacket. It was another sign of how much she was cared for.

After a few moments of not even a stir from Sherry, Leon asked, "What's happening? Is anything happening?"

Claire glanced at him for a moment before focusing again on Sherry. "Please, not now!" She pleaded, "Come on Sherry! Wake up! Please wake up!"

A few seconds passed when she began to fidget a bit. Her eyelashes soon rose to reveal her eyes again to the world.

"Uh, Claire? Where am I?" Sherry asked upon sight of her caregiver.

A sense of relief washed over Leon and he released a deep, tightly held in breath. "It worked!" Leon, despite the terrors they'd survived and Sherry's scare, was feeling better than he had since setting foot in the city. He walked towards the front of the train and said, "It's finally over..."

Claire, from her knees, said, "No, I still have to find my brother."

Leon looked at her. "You're right. This is just the beginning."

He peered through the window in front. They were still speeding through the escape tunnel being carried away to parts unknown. Wherever they were headed, they had a feeling that at least for now, they would find a moment's peace.

Leon walked with care to a nearby seat. He lowered himself to it with ease as his muscles were aching and the gunshot wound through his chest began to nag at him.

"Claire, I'm going to catch some sleep while we have a moment!" Leon said but she seemed to be preoccupied with caring for Sherry. "Wake me up when we get to where we're going."

"Sure, okay..." Claire said while on her knees with the young one.

Leon stretched out with a groan. With visions of flesh eaters closing in on him and lickers leaping with tongues flying and razor-sharp claws to take his life, Leon found it a challenge to catch a nap.

When he was finally able to drift off, the image of the Tyrant monster punching the breath out of him entered his mind. He could still feel remnants of the power from his crushing blow. The resulting tossing and turning further tore him from any sleep he intended on getting.

His gunshot wound reminded him of Ada Wong, another woman he'd met in the police station. He shielded her from the raging bullets of Sherry's mother, Annette, who was trying to end her. Ada turned out to be a spy working for a rival company to find evidence against Umbrella. The spy was beautiful with a sexually magnetic aura about her. Leon couldn't help but be attracted to Ada but found it easier to let her go when he realized her true intentions. Her mission was the only thing that mattered. Leon was nothing but someone to use along the way. He began to wonder whether it was worth it but either way, his wound served as a memento of his encounter with her.

What really snared his attention was the pretty, lively woman with reddish brown hair nearby. Claire had the means, cleverness, and ingenuity to survive the nightmare. She handled herself like it wasn't her first encounter with the undead. She seemed to know what she wanted and wasn't going to stop until she had it. Most impressive for someone that appeared to be approaching two decades old.

How could one not have naughty thoughts about her? Young, cream-toned skin, red hair dangling in a ponytail, cute, round breasts, and a shapely ass would make anyone lose it.

He positioned himself on his side with an arm folded beneath his head. He had one blue eye with its sights on Claire.

When he wondered what it would be like to be inside her as one, his mind really went wild. The beast within was tempered somewhat as she seemed laser-focused on locating Chris. Having time for Leon didn't seem to fit in the plans. Leon faded into the land of dreams with his fantasy.

Leon was twenty minutes into his snooze when the train began decelerating and he awakened from the sudden change of speed.

Claire rose to her feet and stumbled towards the front to see where they wound up.

Leon, feeling like a man three times his age, held his wound as he groaned and sat on the edge of his seat. "Where are we?"

Claire peered through the windows to view a picturesque scene with open, green fields on either side set beneath a sky blue dome with scattered white clouds above them. Further down the tracks coming into their sights and growing larger by the second was a town with a handful of buildings arranged in a circle.

The train screeched to halt and stopped on its own in front of a platform on the edge of town.

Claire marched over to Sherry, took her hand, and right for the door they walked. Leon saw a look on Claire that said she knew—or thought she knew what the next move was. Leon took it upon himself to protect her, possibly from herself.

He popped off his seat in pursuit, tortured muscles and all, and followed her down the steps that led off the train and onto a wooden platform.

Leon waved his hands in the air but her boots didn't cease moving. "Claire! Hey Claire!"

Leon, fed up with his concerns being disregarded, dashed ahead and threw himself in her path. He thrust both hands in front of him and naturally, she halted in her tracks. It was quite a dangerous idea to stand in front of Claire when her mind was set on a mission. It was a chance he had to take.

Claire may have stopped but not without leaning back on her heel with a huff. "What is it, Leon? We have to go!"

"Listen to me! We have no idea if this area is safe. The virus could have spread here. We should be watchful of ourselves."

Claire nodded and reached behind her to pull out her handgun. "Okay, that's a good idea."

It was something Claire knew instinctively but with her singular focus, it didn't come to the front of her mind without Leon's reminder.

She released her gun's safety lock, took hold of Sherry's hand again, and walked a path around the rookie cop with the town in her focus again.

Again, Leon was in chase mode, like he was after a purse snatcher or candy bar thief. "Wait a minute, darn it! What are you doing?"

While keeping stride, Claire said, "Find fresh clothes, a hot bath, and a meal, preferably in that order. After that, I'm going to Europe after Chris."

"Don't leave me, Claire!" Sherry said almost in tears with a tighter grip on her caregiver's hand.

Claire stopped only to kneel in front of Sherry and comfort her.

She took both her hands into hers and gave her undivided attention. "I'm still here, sweetie but soon, I'll have something important to do. I have to find my family like you tried to find yours. You understand, don't you?"

Claire spoke with such care and tender love.

Sherry shook her head in the negative with sobbing and tears flying through the air. "No, I just want you close to me!"

Leon said, "She just lost both her parents. Almost died back there. All she has is us. Maybe we should stop for a while before we think about casting her off?"

Claire sighed and dipped her head. Leon could see the struggle happening within her. Only Sherry could cause her actual stop and think.

Leon wanted her to stop not only for the little girl but for himself. It wasn't long before Claire would be taking off and he hoped to get closer to her before she left. Put simply, he wanted to fuck Claire's brains out. The more his pain subsided, the more his cock hardened. He realized how much he had to be inside her. Well, he had to try at least. Besides, he hadn't decided where his path was going to take him next.

Claire said, "Alright, Sherry. We'll stay with you a while."

"Yay!" Sherry cheered as she stayed attached to the young lady and skipped alongside her.

Leon grinned for more than one reason.

It wasn't long before they arrived at the town.

Leon sped up and threw his arm out to bar the females from entering.

He whipped out his gun and said, "Wait here. I'll check it out first."

Claire smiled and pulled the little one into her body. "Okay and thank you."

Leon offered a slow nod and walked inside.

He hadn't had a second to take in the early fall air. It was crisp and refreshing. The ground was dusty aside from the bricks surrounding the fountain in the square. There were people shopping, leaving the local inn/bar, and kids were playing around that fountain. None of the people growled, snarled, or seemed to have an interest in tearing apart someone's flesh. It appeared safe—at least for the time being.

Leon scouted for places that interested the trio such as the general store to his left and the inn to the right. The buildings were old and rustic with a wooden look to them. It reminded Leon of the Wild West.

Leon turned towards Claire and Sherry and whistled with a come-hither wave of the hand.

Claire tucked her gun inside the rear of her red shorts against her black, skin-tight top. She scampered to Leon's side with Sherry in tow.

"Leon, what did you find?" Claire asked.

Leon holstered his weapon as well. "Looks like the virus hadn't spread here. We should have some time to plan our next move but we don't know how long it will stay safe."

"We'll use all the time we have," Claire said with a brush on Leon's arm. He was already so hard it hurt but the touch of her cotton-like hands did nothing but make him more sexually charged. Claire scanned the town's buildings and said, "Some of that time could be spent under a steamy hot shower..."

Leon grinned and lowered his voice. "You want me to shower with you? I didn't expect you to be so forward, Claire."

Claire was thrown off balance and stammered, "Oh, uh. No, I didn't mean that. Leon, you're such a guy."

"I hope so. Anyway..." Leon said as he made steps towards the inn and pointed towards it. "I'm sure we can find a shower in there."

Claire aimed her finger in the opposite direction at the general store. "Maybe we should get some supplies and some fresh clothes first...or did you plan on putting the same ones back on?"

Leon retraced his steps and walked with Claire towards the store. "Fair enough. So we're going to walk in smelling like zombie blood and guts?"

Claire shrugged. "I don't know. How else are we going to walk in? Unless you want Sherry to pick out your clothes?"

Leon couldn't help but enjoy his back and forth with Claire. It made him want her even more but the question would remain about what to do with Sherry in the meantime.

"Good point..." Leon said as they trotted towards the west of the square.

They stepped onto the weathered wood surrounding the general store. He opened the door for the girls shaking the bell attached to the top. He followed them inside and began looking around.

After the destruction and terror in Raccoon City, it was a relief to see this place untouched. Life was going on as usual and the people's chatter seemed to indicate they were unaware of what went on there.

Leon was drawn to the news report on the television near the checkout lanes. He folded his arms and shifted his weight on his back foot. The news report by the anchors mentioned a chemical plant explosion on the outskirts of Raccoon City but nothing about a zombie or viral outbreak. Umbrella was controlling the flow of information much to the enragement of the rookie cop.

A few minutes later, Claire wandered to his side with a handbasket in hand. "What are you looking at?"

Leon's blood was on fire as he spoke through his gritted teeth. "Can you believe this? There's nothing about the virus on the news. We almost became some monster's chew toy because of them and the world knows nothing about what they've done. We have to expose them."

Claire moved into Leon's personal space so close they were sharing body heat. "We will. If they think they're going to get away with anything, they have a surprise coming to them." She held up her basket showing her items: shampoo, lotion, a hairbrush, comb, various colors of hair ties, a green, short sleeve shirt that cut off above her belly button, a pair of blue jeans, and some brown shoes. It was like there was a bottomless pit in the basket. "Well, I'm ready."

Leon rotated his head to look over her things. "And how do you plan on paying for those?"

"Hmm, do you mind if I pay the same way you plan on paying for yours?"

Leon shook his head. "And you're such a woman."

Sherry's arms clung to Claire's legs. The little one rubbed her eyes then used Claire as a pillow.

With Sherry preoccupied with catching a snooze, Leon thought to pursue the young woman.

"You look amazing, Claire."

Claire smiled really big and cheesy. "I look like someone who needs a shower."

"No, really, you do."

"Thanks, Leon."

"I know we only met a short time ago but we've been through so much. I doubt I would be standing here without you."

"We made it together."

Voices, one after another, came to Leon trying to dissuade him from making a move on the young redhead. Sherry was nearby and did he want to get close to someone knowing she would be gone in a day or two? Sure, there was also the possibility of being shot down but if Raccoon City taught him anything, it was that death could lurk around any corner.

He spoke back to those voices. Why not live while I still can?

His body clinched and began to freeze in the presence of this beautiful woman. He was typically confident around the opposite sex but before arriving in Raccoon City, he'd spent time in a bar to wash away the sorrows from a nasty departure from his ex.

His confidence may have been fractured but having stared death in the face, he no longer gave a shit.

Leon took Claire's hand with a lock on her blue irises. "I was, um, thinking we could be together."

That came out all wrong and he knew it when the words spilled out. His mind was scrambled oatmeal. He swallowed hard as his hands trembled and sweated while he waited for her lips to move with a response.

Claire nervously chuckled. "Be together? We're probably splitting up soon unless you're coming to Europe with me. How would we have time for that?"

Leon righted his mind enough to form a coherent sentence despite the cramping in his gut. "No, I meant for the night."

Claire flushed the hue of a cherry. "Leon! I thought your mind was on paying back Umbrella?"

"It is but I have a feeling things are going to get really crazy for us and who knows. We could be taken out by a bloodthirsty creature at any moment."

"I don't plan on dying."

"I don't either but it is going to get dangerous especially if that virus got out somehow."

Claire giggled again and shifted her eyes around as though she was considering it or trying to construct an elaborate excuse why it wasn't a good idea. Leon was hoping it wasn't the latter.

She said, "Maybe we should get our things and talk about it later?"

Leon experienced a feeling of dejection and a sinking in his gut. He knew it was a longshot but she didn't exactly say "no." She could have been delaying that "no" or trying to find a way to let him down easily. Then again, there was also a chance her feelings were mutual.

"Ok..." Leon said as he walked away.

Leon scoured the store for his necessities: a few tank tops of various colors, blue jeans, brown pants, a pack of socks, black work shoes, deodorant, and fresh bandages. A stop by the freezers provided dinner. Frozen Chinese and bottled water. Yay.

Leon waddled towards the front with all of his things held against his body and dumped them on the checkout counter next to Claire's pile, which was a few items larger than it was before.

Leon glared at Claire with slanted brows and wrinkles in his forehead. "I hadn't received my check from the department, you know. I have a feeling it isn't coming."

Claire tossed her hand up. "Sorry. You can't expect a woman to go without a few clean bras, T-shirts, and socks can you? Oh, and Sherry can't wear the same clothes she wore around those creatures..."

"Alright, alright..." Leon said with some frustration leaking through as he reached for his wallet that by some miracle was still on him after their ordeal.

He sighed and leaned on the counter facing forward making sure to evade eye contact with her until she swept her hand along his cheek in loving strokes.

Claire, with a mix of sweet and sultry, leaned near his ear and whispered, "I promise that I'll make it up to you."

Her sensual voice caressing his ear snatched his attention although he wasn't sure what exactly she meant. He knew what he wanted it to mean.

Minutes later, the three were leaving the store. Claire was toting a sleeping Sherry in her arms while Leon had the bags in his grips.

Leon walked in the direction of the inn. "I'll get us a room."

Claire put her hand in front of her mouth and yawned. "I can't remember the last time my head hit a pillow."

Leon's heart was pounding with anticipation that he was finally going to be in a room with Claire. Not that it meant anything was going to happen.

Around twenty minutes later, they were in a room on the inn's second floor. There wasn't much more in it aside from a pair of beds with white pillows, sheets, and comforter, an oak bedside table, and a black lamp. The window had a view of the town square. Sitting on a stand a short distance from the foot of the bed was a flat screen TV with a remote control at its side. After what he'd been through, simply being in a room with a bed was enough to send waves of relaxation through his body.
