She did message him, once, asking if she could see him one last time. Rudy ignored it because he simply could not bear to face the woman he'd fallen in love with, while knowing that she was about to turn her back on him and walk away forever. He may have even known what her decision would be ahead of time, as he was very good at reading a woman's body language. Rudy recalled her reaction to the first time when he'd told her that he loved her.
Keeping true to his word, Rudy did go to the coffee shop, at five pm on that fateful day. He sipped down a very bitter cup of coffee by himself. Once that was done, he made up his mind that it was time for him to move again.
