"Doan feel anythin' except the wind on your face and a song in your heart, young man." The ageless old man lifted my heavy bike like it was nothing. "Now ride back to the lowlands and spend a few days gettin' rid of those." He pointed to my neck. "Mary'll na' follow ya there, lad. Now go...off with ya! Keep the settin' sun on your right, and you'll be fine!"
As I rode off around the curve, I realized I hadn't thanked the old man and, remembering my manners, I quickly reversed my direction. In a few seconds, I was back to where I'd left him not a minute ago, and the road was empty. The long, meandering strip of black macadam ahead was empty, too. The land was silent and devoid of anything but me and my machine, along with the ruined castle and whatever silent spirits watched me from the craggy summits.
As unique, strange, and different as this was for me, I realized that I had become part of just another Highland legend: a single line in a volume that spans the ages, without beginning or end.
Dam dude there is your Halloween special, dunno if cheating with a ghost is really cheating well done
A good ghost story is all about the setting. You nailed this one. Thank you for writing and thank you for sharing your work.
probably miss-categorized, but a nice story, wish it'd been longer.
A great little story, good plot, and great execution.
Well worth the 5/5 l’m giving it.
Beautifully written, poignant and very atmospheric. This author has an ability to weave a web of words to pull the reader in with his narrative and this sensual ghost story brilliantly blends an erotic one night stand with a gothic horror story. I'm sure that when travel restrictions are lifted, this tale will have many a lonely biker heading off to the wilds of Scotland in search of a similar encounter.
Very well written. And castles...let me tell you. I've been in a dozen or so during my life. Something about them lures me up against the wall, embracing it, trying to listen for signs of the past. If only those stones could speak! 5*
Great writing and descriptions of the Highlands. I didn't have an adventure like that when I had my visit to Scotland, of course my wife, of the bloodthirsty Munro clan, was with me. You described the land and the atmosphere there beautifully, I could almost hear the pipes.
Le meas, MacGriogair
My only gripe is that if it's scotch then it's whisky, with no "e". And such a trifling thing that it doesn't detract from the story at all. Very well written, and I definitely feel like this is something that could still happen in the Highlands.
Love it. I've always been drawn to old ghost stories and local Legends of the area's I visited. Very well written I look forward to more like this.
Loved the descriptions. I don't know if you're writing from your own visit, but it is a vast place where you can feel the past and all its sorrow.
