This is more of a relaxed chapter, since I imagine ya'll are pretty overwhelmed by the drama in the last chapter. I wanted to give ya'll more of a breather this time around. I won't drop drama bombs in every chapter. :3 I'm working hard to write more pages to the story with each submission, since also being a reader, I want more than just one page. Plus I feel ya'll deserve more than one page too. Leave a comment and leave me feedback at my email, I read all of them. Enjoy the update.

Drips of water rolled down the windows slowly. Trickling against the glass surface till it finally reached the edge of the window and disappeared into a puddle amongst other drops of water. Then the process repeated again with the next drop of rain. Lily had stared at this recurring process for awhile. Staring was all she could do because everything else seemed to hurt. Even blinking was too much of an effort.

She continued to stare out as she thought of the rain. Why was it so fascinating? Out of all the moments, it was now that she was finally noticing. The rain seemed to voice a need to reach out to her. It spoke to her without even using words. The droplets of water reflected her image upside down when she looked hard enough. And that was Lily's world. It was her reality. It was upside down and utterly crazy.

The rain called out to her. It invited her to get out and go live in her reality. There were no predators here. There were no disapproving eyes. There was nothing but a promise of starting her new life.

Lily turned her head towards the car door and looked at the handle. It was the only barrier that kept her from that life. And all she had to do was push down on the handle and open it. What was she waiting for? This is what she wanted from the beginning. She wanted freedom from suburban hell. Now she had it. She just never thought it would be like this. To be kicked out of her own house by her own mom and treated as if she herself belonged in an oversized black trash bag to be thrown out with the rest. She would have rather had that instead of being publicly humiliated by being knocked down, talked down to, and spat on in front of everyone. Even the thought made the pain resurface and her blood boil.

But she looked back at the rain. The soft pattering of the rain invited her. The sound alone was like a soft whisper. The voice told her to move. 'Fuck it that it didn't go the way I planned...I have to move on.' Lily firmly pushed open the door. She stepped out of the car and closed the door back. She stood there taking in the coolness of the water. It easily went through the barrier of her clothes and seeped into the pores of her skin. It felt like a physical form of utter relief washing over her body and cooling the burning scars of her soul. There were no burning gazes here. Only relief.

Lily let out a relieved sigh and relaxed her shoulders. Once she was fully relaxed, she reached inside her car for her purse and then proceeded to make her way towards the townhouse that she had to call sanctuary for now.

Lily trudged up the steps rung the cheery doorbell once again. She stepped back and waited patiently. She made note of her surroundings for awhile before hearing the clinking of metal locks.

"What the bloody hell do you wa-" the old woman was in mid fury before realizing it was Lily. Her face toned down to a neutral stern look. Lily took note that they were the same exact lazy eyes Nicholas gave her. In a more tired voice that gave way to a British accent, the old woman asked, "What the bloody hell do you want?"

"I'm here to sign the lease and move in," Lily answered in a serious tone. The old woman was taken aback a little. Her eyes widening for a brief moment. The old woman took in Lily's state at that time. Lily imagined herself with her hair matted down to skull and clothes that clung to her form.

"Do you happen to know what time it is?" the old woman said sternly. Lily's own eyes widened as she finally took notice of the sky. So much had happened to her today that she didn't much take note of it. It was already dark, so it had to be after six. Lily had thought because of the downpour of rain that it had been perhaps four or five in the afternoon. Before Lily could answer, the old woman answered for her. "It's eight o' clock."

Silence had taken place again between the two. Only the sound of rain hitting the cement could be heard. The woman looked down at the ground before looking at Lily straight in the eye sternly. "Are you just going to stand there like a lump on a log for the rest of the day? Stand on the carpet here while, I go fetch you some dry clothes." She moved away from the door and walked upstairs, leaving Lily to herself. Lily stepped into the warm house and closed the door behind her. She hadn't realized how cold she was until she realized that she was shivering right down to her toes.

Now that she had the time to take note of her surrounding, she mapped out the entrance of the modest townhouse. To her left was the kitchen that consisted of mere necessities of cabinets, cupboards and what not. The table, that she was now getting used to seeing, was opposite of the kitchen area. There was a main room, near the middle of the entrance that she had yet to see. What she could see were nice posh furniture with a few modern technology. Then, of course, to the right was the staircase. Overall, the house had a nice Victorian theme to it. Everything was very clean and put together. Everything fit together.

All except the room. It was like it had a whole different life of its own 'Well, Lily, it does', she reminded herself. But the room wasn't like that all the time. It was once a part of the rest of the house. It was once also warm and welcoming. Now it was desolate and chilling. It was full of life. What had happened in that room?

~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~
Lily sat comfortably at the kitchen table wearing a pair of Nicholas's boxers and his extra large My Chemical Romance T-Shirt. The old woman said it was all she could find-that was clean that is. Lily didn't mind though. It was warm and dry. That was all that mattered.
Now that she thought about it, Lily wondered where Nicholas was. It was then going about nine, and she had seen no sight of him. There was no way possible he could be in bed now. It was too early for someone his age to go to bed. Maybe he was the kind of guy that partied. His perverted personality made him seem like the type of guy who spent the whole party trying to get a girl to go home with him. 'Trying? More like succeeding. With those looks, any girl would willingly go home with him and maybe even leave happy.'
Lily looked up from the table and watched the old woman at the stove preparing tea for the both of them. She said Lily needed something to warm her bones. Before Lily could object, the old woman had already put the kettle on and brought out two glass mugs. Once the kettle had started to steam, the old woman poured the water into the mugs and placed a teabag in each. She put the mugs down on a coaster on the opposite ends of the table, but before sitting down, she went to a drawer and pulled out a sheet of paper and a pen.
Once the old woman settled down in her seat, she put the piece of paper in front of Lily.
"Read it. I won't give you the pen to sign until you read it," the woman whispered with a tone that was deathly serious.
With mug in hand, Lily proceeded to read the document. It was an overall neat document with clearly typed font with a medium font size. Unlike other legal documents, the information was straight forward and to the point. It stated in list form what she could do. For instance if she wanted, she could repaint the room whichever color she liked and decorate whatever style she wanted as long as it was in her half of the room. Lily made a mental note of that before reading what else she was allowed to do like use the washing machine, use the kitchen, etc.
Little did she know, the most interesting details of the contract were not in the benefits. It was in the requirements.
Lily flipped the page to the requirements and was amazed that it was so short. In fact there were only four requirements. And they were as stated:
  1. Pay rent monthly on time on the first of each month.
  2. No drug paraphernalia is to be kept in this house. If found, immediate eviction will take place.
  3. No loud music.
The last one made Lily's eyes open in bewilderment. It was so simple but it was more complex than how it appeared. She took the time to read it over and over.
  1. Appease the Spirit.
Lily looked up from the document to look at the old woman who already was staring straight at her. She knew what part Lily was at. The old woman took a drink from her tea before saying, "This is why I wanted you to read it. When you sign that lease, you take the problems with it." Then nothing else was said.
Lily sat there thinking while taking sips of her tea. What the hell is she getting herself into? A lot of things could be a means to appease a ghost. Writing on the wall was only way of appeasement that she had seen thus far. What exactly did it all mean to appease this ghost?
"Last night, it wrote messages by scratching on the wall," Lily said, finally looking up at the woman. "I had to write back...Is this what you mean by appeasement." The old woman let out what sounded like a sigh of uncertainty.
"Yes...and no. There's more to it than just to simply write messages to him." The answer did not really do much to ease Lily's doubts, but she had nowhere else to go. The old woman handed her the pen for her to sign and initial in all the correct places. When she was done signing her name in the last spot, a thought crossed her mind.
"How do you know it's a he when-"At that moment the door opened with a bang as Nicholas came through on unsteady feet. Nicholas's whole body was slick from the rain, but he smelled more of booze than of rain. His wife beater was basically see through and molded to his body like a second skin. His black low riding jeans was low enough now to the point that Lily could clearly read the designer label on his briefs. She also couldn't help but notice the vibrant tattoos going up each arm. He slouched his body back against the door with his head hung low. His lips were pulled back across his teeth as he giggled to himself which caused his unruly black curls to shake. He somehow managed to roll his head in order to look at his mother.
"Ello there, mum," Nicholas slurred his words slightly. Unlike his mother, he didn't have a British accent, but it didn't stop him from using some of the terms.
The old woman didn't seem particularly in the mood for this bullshit right now. "Where the hell have you been?" Nicholas pushed back his black hair to look at her. On his face were snake bite piercings that protruded from his lips and a stud that adorned his nose.
"I just decided to get a little snockered is all, mum. I'm totally fine." He rolled his head over and noticed Lily. A small perverted smile crossed his face. Lily thought to herself 'Oh dear God. Of course he's one of those horny drunks.'
"Ello there, cowgirl," Nicholas leered at her. He made his way to walk cockily towards her. He took the seat next to her and rested his head against his knuckles. He did this without breaking eye contact. "Are you going to attempt to take another ride on my stallion tonight or are you going to get scared off by the big horse again?" Another one of his perverted crooked smiles flashed across his face.
Lily's eyes widened in surprise as he said all that without any care that he just discussed sex in front of his mother. The guy had to have a big pair of balls to talk that way. Or just so drunk he was far passed caring that he talked this way in front of everyone. If she talked like that in front of her mom, she would have been slapped all over creation. She peeked at Nicholas's mother, but the woman drunk her tea as if her son was talking about the weather.
Lily clumsily pushed back her seat, stubbing her toe against a leg of the table. She wished the old woman a hasty goodnight, before basically running towards the stairs. "Hold on a minute!" Nicholas's voice called out after her. She continued her pace to her room without even taking the time to look his way. Even though she couldn't see what he was doing. She could hear him attempting to run after her, but the sound of loud thuds against the hardwood floor and curses that followed after told her that he ultimately failed.
'Drunk asshole.' Lily rolled her eyes heavenward before going inside the bathroom and locking the door. She let out a loud breath as she leaned her head against the wall as she stared up at the ceiling. 'A drunk asshole who's my roommate.' With that reminder, Lily didn't see the point of running at all. And locking herself in the bathroom like a scared little girl on top it! She would eventually have to unlock the door and go to bed.' That was so immature.'
She unlocked the door, but as soon as she stepped out, someone hooked their arm around her waist and covered her mouth. The person smelled heavily of alcohol. Nicholas. The realization made Lily open her eyes and glare at him. Nicholas's lazy eyes only smiled back at her with a stupid grin on his face. It was weird how his face was mere inches from her. She imagined he would be towering over her. When she began kicking her legs frantically was when she realized that he had hefted her up to his level.
But he was too near. His body was flush against hers as he had her pinned against the wall. His chest was right against her full B-cup breasts. And in order to not risk dropping her, Nicholas's thigh was in between her legs. When she looked into his face, all coherent thought went away as she became nervous. She had never been this close to a man in her life. In fact, she usually avoided being touched. But she wouldn't deny that the unwelcomed heat from his body caused an unfamiliar wetness to soak her...well his boxers.
Moving his hand away from her mouth, Lily stuttered, "W-W-What do you want... Nicholas?" She shifted her gaze down to her feet but remembered that there was a leg in her way. She had nowhere else to look but Nicholas.
"You're wearing my clothes," Nicholas said while smiling once more. To emphasize his point, Nicholas moved his large palm under the shirt and smoothed it from her lower back to the middle. He continued the stimulating back and forth motion until she arched her back, pressing her body into him.
"A-And?" Her breath was no more than a whisper. She pressed her hands against his chest so she could get off but the leg was planted against the wall, making it impossible to get off. Catching her off guard, his hands grabbed her ass and began to squeeze. A loud yelp escaped from her lips before she could even hold it in. She glanced back up at Nicholas and there was an undeniably wolfish grin on his face.
"I want my boxers." He slipped the boxers down a little. His pierced lips moved forward to sample hers. With fear creeping up her spine, Lily kicked her legs and pounded his chest frantically to get away from his body, but all she was accomplishing was causing friction between his thigh and her pussy. Causing her fluids to leak all the more. His hands came off the boxers and lowered her down to the floor. "I don't know though. These may be a little wet by now."
That was the whole game. The smile on his face as he moved his face away from her confirmed it. He just wanted to prove he could get her wet. "You asshole!" she finally fumed out loud. She would have hit him if only he wasn't a full foot taller than her.
"You finally voice what you think of me," he drunkenly laughed out loud. He walked over to the bathroom door to take his shower. Before he closed the door, he slurred, "But your body told me what it likes about me." The bathroom door closed, leaving Lily to her thoughts once more.
~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~

Lily lied awake exhausted in her bed as she didn't want to think of everything that had happened today. It was cliché, but the only way she could describe her day was that it was crazy. She felt a lifetime of emotions in one day, but somehow felt she had not once fully expressed any emotion. She did enough of one emotion to be considered proper. Because if you cried too much, you were a sympathy seeker. If you felt too much anger, you were bitter. And if you felt too attracted to someone, you were a slut.

Lily, at that moment, looked over at Nicholas. Why did she have to be attracted to this guy though? He was a total asshole. A sexy one, yes. But above all an asshole. Maybe it was because he was different? She was neat and proper in her speech and attire. Nicholas, on the other hand, seemed to raise a middle finger to everything and everyone while he told them what he thought. She was jealous that he had such freedom with his words. Lily didn't wish to be exactly use that freedom like he did, but she only wished she could have the freedom at all.

'But I do have the freedom,' she reminded herself. Lily sat up and brought her knees to her chin as she thought about that. Nothing really was stopping her. She didn't live with her Ma anymore and neither did she live in the same narrow minded community. But thinking about all the chances she could have taken to fully express how she felt and what she thought was controlled. Even the outburst she had in front of the entire neighborhood was controlled. Her emotions and experience stifled her to silence. They took away her breath to keep her quiet. If she wanted to breathe, no words could come out. She had to keep quiet and breathe. Because any words that dared to come out would have surely strangled her to death. It was funny how there was no one there to reproach her language and even her emotion, but she herself condemned her own language and emotion.

SLAM!

The door once again slammed itself close in the middle of the night. The noise caused Lily to jump in the middle of her reflections as the icy feeling of fear crawled beneath her skin. Lily calmed herself as she told herself it was just like yesterday. There was no reason to be scared. If she was going to live here, she had to get used to it. Plus she agreed to it in the contract. She closed her eyes and breathed slowly as she turned her head to look at Nicholas.

Again, his eyes were a feral glowing red that held her in place. As she stared into his eyes, there wasn't much of a threat this time. They were somewhat softer. Even sympathetic towards her. But the overall demanding look in his eyes overpowered any other possible emotions. What the demand was, she did not know.

Once his eyes had closed, the wall gradually illuminated till it became a wall of light. She heard the shuffling of a drawer before she saw the knife scratch itself into the wall. 'So the knife stays here even when the ghost isn't around.' Lily mentally noted as she waited to make out the words on the wall.

How was your day? The apparition walked over to her and gave her the knife as she sat there pondering of how to answer. There was no way he could know how her day had turned out since the last time they met. She saw no point in recounting all of today's events because it would not change what had already been done. She got up from her bed and wrote slowly on the wall.

Fine. And Lily left it at that. The knife was taken out of her hand to scratch a furiously quick message. This was the first time she had ever seen the knife used for its original purpose. The crossing of letters and the dotting of I's was like the apparition was trying to physically stab and disembowel the wall as if it were human.
