The waves lapped at the sand on the shoreline as the clouds gathered in the distance. The sun faded quietly into the sea, as if by magic and began to disappear from sight. The colors of the sky ranged in a vast rainbow of hues. They muted together and formed a smear across the previously reflected blue. Along the shoreline, a lone figure still walked across the sand. Her dress billowed out as the wind played catch and tease with the hemline, her cape streaming out behind her. Eyes constantly down she never glanced up to see if anyone was watching her. She did not care. She knew that there were eyes upon her, watching her nightly trek that consistently accomplished alone. Her feet were clad in soft shoes that matched her dress, but were unseen. Her hands always tucked away where they were invisible, she looked as if she were a ghostly figure. Were it not for the darkness of the cape sharp in contrast against her ruby red gown, one would instantly assume she was there for only in spirit. 1

The eyes upon her watched as she paused a moment and turned her face and hands to the ocean. Her back against the watcher she began her ritual evening chant. Calling the powers of the four corners of the earth, she asked for protection and invoked their blessings. She begged nightly for the one who had been taken from her to come back in whatever means the powers deemed necessary. Nightly they granted her wish if only for the few brief moments between the total dusk and darkness that were available to her. Her cry of joy heard over the crashing waves as that one she desired so badly walked out of the ocean into her arms once more.2

Within seconds, they fell into each other's arms. She the Witch and her lover the Shadow Walker. The two attracted forces together in life, and now in death. The Witch found her clothes falling away from her body in fast movements. The Shadow Walker's disappeared as if by magic. They wasted no time in falling to the sand on the blanket the Witch had brought. No time spared as they devoured each other hungrily. There was no tenderness, no time for wasted pleasantries. They had but only the time the Goddess could allow two she cherished. The Witch was hungry for the Shadow Walker, her hands reaching and touching in all places, she could put her fingertips. The Shadow Walker's hands found their way into the wet and willing warmth of the Witch quickly. 3

Fingers played along the Witch's arms and found a new scar upon her. Angrily the Shadow Walker glanced at the new wound, but the Witch choose that moment to shrug it off. Suddenly the Shadow Walker was upon her, feasting on her flesh. With the Shadow Walker's lips covering a pink tipped nipple and drawing it into a hot mouth, the Witch arched her back and cried out. The Witch's hands came up and uncovered the Shadow Walker's face. As beautiful in life as it was in death, she gazed lovingly upon the one who would always be hers. The shadows lengthened while they shared a special moment. It was in that moment the Goddess chose to call the Shadow Walker. Keeping the Witch forever wanting of the next moment and binding her closer to the Goddess. The Shadow Walker began to fade from sight and the Witch cried out to the Goddess for more time. 4

She heard the Goddess's voice in her mind, chiding her to be patient and all things would become as desired in the end. The Witch nodded to herself and watched as the Shadow Walker finally vanished before her eyes. She slowly drew on her clothing, with a heavy heart threw the cape back over her shoulders, and looked about her in the darkness. She could still feel the eyes upon her, only this time she knew they came from the Goddess. Her nightly trek out had been unsatisfactory in her mind. She was usually given more time with the Shadow Walker. She realized that neither of them had spoken a word to the other and wondered if it were even possible any longer. 5

Their voices had been silent for so long, only capable of speaking during her nightly chant. She lived for those few moments with the Shadow Walker. Her mind and soul devoted to the Goddess. An image flew into her mind and startled her. She realized without an uncertain doubt in her mind that the one she referred to as the Shadow Walker, was indeed the Goddess herself. Her original Lady had perished long ago. Now she made love nightly to the Goddess. This is why her time was so brief. Moving from one plane to the next must have been exhausting. Instantly she understood, and was grateful for the time she had nightly for her own personal communion with her deity. Her life made sense again, her spirit suddenly lifted and for the rest of her life, she never again questioned the amount of time she spent with her nightly lover. She was Blessed.
