Always, always, ALWAYS, insert a form of punctuation (you know the sort of thing: comma, peroid,
exclamation/question mark) before a close quote mark!
To paraphrase the credit card commercial: Don't leave quote without it!
This was simple yet told in a way I think a lot of your readers could relate and enjoy. I hope you will think about writing another story - maybe a class reunion where these two meet again?
