Shadowrun stories are pretty rare.

Yes, I am a huge fan of Shadowrun But this story is in a similar but different setting. It takes place decades after a War of the Worlds type invasion that wiped out many of the population centers and most of the world's military. Corporations (and a few adventurers) were the first to capitalize on the alien wreckage. And though our world's germs killed the invaders, their own viruses and virus-like organisms changed humanity. Changed as in physically changing our appearance and bodies to those resembling beings from fantasy and horror, and/or changing some bestowing magical powers.
