I wish all heartbreaks ended this well

A well written and carefully plotted story, with excellent characterization and emotional content.

Great love story

I really liked this story and could relate to the characters. They seemed very real. Good sex too.

Made me smile

Good story. Rare to find real character development here and the final scene was worth the lengthy read.

Very well done story!

It's not often that betrayed lovers accept a second chance, and as shown in this story even when they do changes are necessary. Very well plotted and written story!

Enjoyed it

Just don't get it. This line in particular . . .

"By caving in to her entreaties, he would never gain her respect, without which, their relationship would have no dignity."

Let me see if I understand correctly. In order to ensure that she never cheats again after he takes her back, he has to stand up to her. That is the point of the rough sex, right? He is sending her a message. Here's what I don't get: this sentiment acknowledges that within her character is a propensity to cheat and disrespect him. She carried on with Mario because he was too nice to her. Unless he goes to Herculean efforts, she will do it again. And he wants that kind of woman? Seriously, there are plenty of women of good character out there. Move on!

Funny, how the smoking references intruded on the story.

Maybe just a reaction from an nonsmoker, but it was bothersome.

Good Stuff!

Always a sucker for a happy ending!

Alex certainly made Kim sweat,in more ways than one,in exacting a sort of revenge while changing the dynamic of their relationship on New Year's Eve.

As the Bard put it,"All's well that ends well."

Not for me

Sorry but she only wanted him after her lover didnt want her and her marriage failed. Dude was angry at her all that time only to take her back the first time he saw her. No thanks.

Gotta agree with anonymous comment from 2 years ago. All that time and anger only for him to take her back straight away. Just no.

The story and characterizations were well written and great up until she starts to strip and realizes she is a borderline sub who wants the MC to have an assertive demeanor and be tough in the bedroom, willing to do whatever it takes. Huh? This is the same Kim who disrespected him throughout their time dating, walling over nice guys, including him gettingnwhat she wants, manipulating her long steady boyfriend, and then cheating on him repeatedly with Mario the predatory asshole at her college. She confessed (presumably) after first time out of guilt, but when he forgave her, she walked all over Mr nice guy again, continuing to cheat with Mario, for who knows how many times. It was ongoing through Nww Years and would have continued if she wasn't so dumb to reroute rheir New Year's plans and rub the smirking Mario and his friends in the MC's face. Finally he knew she was still banging Mario at college, that his prior forgiveness was spit on and he ended their relationship, much to the glee of Mario, who probably instructed Kim to join him on New Year's. She tried calling him for a couple of days, not fighting for their relationship or future, and went back to Mario, who in a twist, doesn't want her as Mario just wants "forbidden fruit" (whatever good luck with asshole, outside of college he will soon end up in the hospital). Going to guess that she was then too ashamed to try again. We are told to accept that she met another guy, married for security, money and on the rebound and it was miserable. But wait a second, why the divorce and why was the prenuptial activated? Too early on their agreement? Nah, more likely she cheated on the ex-husband. Got caught. Had no decent lawyer and got rolled by stockbroker ex-husband. She got no assets. That is a red flag. He may have been an asshole, controlling husband who sucked in the sack, but there is a decent chance she went behind his back too. Dunno. Regardless, the MC has suddenly redefined their relationship, has 'stern', hot sex with Kim and she now accepts the change in relationship dynamics, certainly adopting the role of (at least a mild) sub in the bedroom. And they are reconciled. Wow. What about all hisnyears of carrying the torch, her betrayal, no communication, and suddenly yeah no sweat, let's get back together. Look people can change. But convincing a loved one you betrayed of that takes time. It is not really clear she has changed significantly though she attests to it. So? Trust was broken and mending that takes effort and time. Woukd they even have that time, being young, him in Virginia, working a lot, and her just divorced and more or less penniless living with her parents? Hope he is smarter this time and gets a prenuptial before getting hitched. If she doesn't sign then ditch her. Shouldn't reconcile anyways. Maybe with a prenuptial agreement m, he can relax a bit down the line, since he will revert to his Mr nice guy role in life, with the exception of the bedroom. Otherwise no way he can be someone other than who he is, which didn't work out well when Mario took control of her. Even if she really did mature and desperately still loves the MC, her words right now should mean crap. Do they even have time or wherewithal to go to joint counseling sessions? He is playing with fire. She did not respect him, for sure, and slept with Mario, who she was obviously attracted to, throughout that semester. Young people make mistakes, but she was forgiven for her first confessed offense. But then blew it up entirely and rubbed it in the MC's face, who had finally grew some stones and dumped her cheating ass. He semi-ghosted her, fled family and friends, heading to Virginia. and she had the first of two revelations. #1 : that Mario was just using her and playing her and #2 thw ex-husband was a really shitty asshole and maybe marrying for money is not a good idea. Anyways reconciliation seems trite here, too quick, and the story suffered when the sex started to.ter the frame. MC had a lot of emotional baggage that so suddenly melted out of the way when they had sex. Good luck with their marriage going forward. His RAAC transformation was rapid.

Really good setup that went almost 90° downhill

I'm not really sure what exactly happened to this story. The beginning was quite good, albeit in a predictable kinda way. I liked the hints that eventually led to the full story of the MCs' breakup. I felt that Alex's turmoil was well depicted and I sympathized with him. I enjoyed the interaction with Tommy and Jane and the little tidbits they dropped about how much Alex had helped them out in the past, though I felt like Jane's disrespect for him was pretty disgusting. We were given just enough of a hint of how Alex helped without bludgeoning the readers over the head with unnatural sounding info dumps. I felt like his revulsion with Kim's behavior at the party was interesting and realistic given his deep sense of hurt, betrayal, and dislike. All of those parts were good.

The problem lies in the reconciliation part and how startlingly abrupt it was. For Alex to just take Kim back after all the years of acrimony and pain he's had after just a night of semi-dommy sex is... not good. Pretty cringe, really. Sure, there was some hotness to the scenes but the issue is that it only really began to solve one of the many problems this couple had, namely that Kim is a brat who responds to a firm hand on her reins and Alex used to be a push over she thought would stay with her no matter what disrespectful shit she pulled on him. Given her response when he was being commanding I SERIOUSLY doubt her issues have gone away.

More importantly is that none of the emotional components of their broken relationship were addressed. These two have a lot of baggage between them. Just having Alex say, "there’s no need to rehash that – what’s done is done," doesn't mean that the emotional repercussions are in the past. It was a cheap plot device and one that didn't fit with Alex's character at all. Hell, the guy spent 7/8 of the story doing nothing BUT dwelling on the past, things Kim did, and how it made him feel. There's no way he would just suddenly drop all of that, tell her what to do in the bedroom, and be all hunky-dory with everything in the morning. It just didn't fit and it was very disappointing.

I'm not sure what happened to this story. Maybe lil_elvis got bored with it or thought it had stretched on too long already or something, I don't know. It's clear that they have a lot of talent for writing but the ball was definitely dropped at the end of this. It turned an excellent story into a barely mediocre one. Such a shame.
