I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. Very absorbing tale with a good twist in the end. Good luck in the contest.
But there are a few niggles. Sailing down the channel in 1830's and passing Falmouth bound for Australia, would the ship really have diverted to Bristol? It is a long way off route. When the survivors landed in rural South Wales at that time it would have been obvious they were strangers as the local people would have spoken Welsh. However I enjoyed the story. Please continue.
I'm going to be unable to access Literotica for a week. I appreciate any comments made but I'm not going to be able to acknowledge them. Thank you for any made.
As for the previous comment - thank you and explanations: 1. The Esmeralda went to Bristol because there weren't enough female convicts earlier. 2. Being strangers wasn't a problem. Being associated with the Esmeralda would be. But - in the 19th Century coastal South Wales didn't speak much Welsh. It was officially discouraged. Monoglot Welsh speakers in South Wales were less than 5% of the population. Those with a minimal competence in Welsh were less than 30%. English was the norm in that area and still is.
Fun story about a place I've been. If you spend time with ghosts, I hope you'll be able to have a pint with Robert Louis Stevenson's ethereal self. You can compare notes from back in the day and perhaps write another piece like this.
Loved the story and its historical setting. I would have given it a 10, but ...well... 5 stars are not bad!
It was fun bouncing forward and back in time. The parallel relationships tied it together nicely. Just enough historical trivia to add realism.
Thanks
Pretty good story. 4/5
Lost a star because there were many wordy dull moments that I found myself skimming over. Otherwise a fun read.
Nice story, good flow and kept my attention from start to finish. This is the fourth or fifth story I've read by this author and it's my favourite so far. A solid 4.
Thank you, Sir, for such a good story. I have now read it twice and now will go on to others for rereads since I have read them all at least once.
