Reading these first chapters of your story have compelled me to comment. i am not nearly as tall as you are, i am 5'8" and a divorced redhead who's 39. My boss, the office manager is 27, and yes she is black. She has been my boss in real life for 4 years, but she was my colleague and co-worker for 2 years beforehand. She is 5'3" and 110 lbs., and she is as determined and bossy as they come. She has been bossing me around since she began her employ, so much in fact that i conceded my interest in the manager's position when it came up 4 years ago because she insisted it was the wrong move for me. i think you are capturing this trend of younger black women becoming more confident and determined to take on management roles over us white women in the business field. i will be turning 40 this summer and my worry is that my boss will make another black girl who is 22 and one that she seems so fond of the assistant manager very soon. i am not sure just how many will read this comment, but what you are expressing is very much a reality of what is happening in the business world. As a white woman, i feel so helpless to contest it but i certainly cannot deny how defeated many of us white women are beginning to feel with black women,
