The story has a strong real world point: be careful of the nature of the commitment required to an alleged good - hearted cause. Rachel found that the sacrifices which are expected by the animal loving community far exceed carrying a placard or writing her representative. The erotic element is adjunctive to ans supports the story line. I would have liked to have heard more about Rachel after she taken away.
