A writer who knows the correct phrase is 'free rein', referring to riding a horse with a loose vs. tight rein, allowing freedom of movement. Too many people here use 'reign', which means to rule, totally different meaning. However since the writing in this series has been consistently excellent, it's not surprising but merely refreshing. Can't wait to find out what's next for our hero.

Man, the Fitzhughs are down right garbage for their operation, but my main critique is that Matt seems to be fine throwing his education away by knowingly skipping class and not seeming to even care to go back once Christmas is over. He became fine with casually being some whore

Yes, I think I've gotten at the half-way point of this series that the theme is the struggle to get Matt's head turned in the right direction. It's fun to see how far off the track he gets before going back to college and then home. It's fine with me if he has some fun along the ride - especially with black studs, which seem to be a specialty of this author - I'm happy to say.
