My first thought might not have been that hell had frozen over but I was quite shocked at seeing a new post. So much so that I double checked to make sure it actually was a new submission. I was quite under the impression that I had somehow scrolled down to the Hall of Fame section at the bottom. It was a pleasant surprise to see that it indeed was a new part!

Thank you for not giving up on this story. It is truly one of my favorites. The way you've created the characters and allowed for their growth and development over time is not something usually seen on this site. They're enjoyable because they're believable and imperfect (as human beings actually are). But there are reasons for their imperfections, bad choices and their desire for better. The way they've subtly become better than who they were, despite all of the heartache, shows your commitment and skill as a writer. Perhaps they're actually becoming better (and stronger) versions of themselves because of their heartache. If that is the case than I am quite on pins and needles to see how our dear Earl goes about securing his beloved governess back - and keeping her this time!

First off, I really don't see why she's so upset with him, at least upset enough to want to leave him and never return when the last chapter she came back to stay with him. And second, don't make this where she tells him she's not returning and all that and then decides to hide the fact she's pregnant, I'm sorry but that's usually a cliche plot point. Other than that I still like the story.

LOVE this story! LOVED these chapters! You are incredible!

Now, I actually think Rockdale's anger here makes a lot of sense, as he really needs to break down his own barriers, and to do that he really must go through them. So, by clinging to his anger, he's going to be presented with the chance to face facts about his choices and how they have affected his relationships, from Eliza to his children. Plus, I actually LOVE that you've had Eliza choose neither of them! I feel that perhaps in another story, her choosing to return home might not be as strong, because another heroine might be doing it to make the hero prove himself to her. You know, have him come chasing her down on his white steed. Show up with the proverbial boom box, in the rain. Eliza I really think has decided to find her own way. Rockdale has continuously shown her that he is only comfortable with her being his mistress, and Eliza has continuously shown that she would never be happy in that role. The agreement they reached last chapter was tenuous at best, and mostly contingent on Eliza needing him as a protector for their unborn, bastard child. One day they were both going to have to face facts though, and Rockdale needs to work THROUGH his walls, and anger, and all that he's shrouded himself in, to come to the realization that people can't be kept in neat, little organized boxes. Life is messy, and if he wants to keep Eliza, he's going to need to get out of his comfort zone.

Also, I honestly don't believe Eliza is doing this as a bid for Rockdale to prove himself. I think sadly, she's come to the realization through his anger and constant reminders (whether he was conscientious of it, or not) that she is only a servant. So, she is making the best decision she can for herself, and now the new life in the equation. It's not just her pride at work, in going home, it's for an innocent life. I believe she's making the best decision she can, with what she has been given. John was never going to be the answer, as easy as that would have been for her.

I personally cannot wait to see what the next installment brings us! Will Rockdale come to grips with what he actually wants out of his life, and really earn Eliza's trust back? They love each other, and I believe they'll be able to work it all out, once they get some honest and open communication flowing! I am interested to see how the baby factors in though, because I feel that could be a bit of wild card for Rockdale. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he mentions somewhere in the beginning that he would provide for any bastard, if one was conceived, and he seemed kind of ok with the idea. Reality is different of course, so I wonder what his reaction to the news will be, once he finds out! I am loving the angst you are serving up with these two chapters, though I am also dying for a HEA!!!! But, enjoying the ride, nonetheless!

Also, just a quick note. Please don't worry too much about what people on here (myself included) say/comment about your story. Opinions are like buttholes and all, you know? This is your story, and yours alone. Take some pressure off yourself, and just write the tale you want to. There will always be a few trolls sprinkled into the mix, and I encourage you to highly disregard them, but I would caution you to be careful even with the praise or constructive criticism of us all here. In other words, you do you boo! Just please, whatever you do, don't stay away so long again!!! That was a truly torturous wait! You have a brilliant noodle, and I want more of it!!! Obviously a big ole 5* from me, and serious long distance, internet hugs and kisses to you for giving us such beautifully flawed, REAL characters, that I could clearly prattle on and on about for ages!

Loved this segment. Lots of action and boy is Rockdale getting pulled in lots of different directions. Can hardly wait to see what happens next. Will Carolina tell Rockdale about Eliza's pregnancy? Will he have his revenge on George? What will he do when he finds out Eliza did not where he where he ordered her to go? Only Author Emmeline knows for sure. If we are really lucky she will share with us.

You are the one that holds all these choices and no matter how many scenarios I try to play in my head none of them will come close to the euphoria I get while reading your beautifuly and masterfully written words. ...with how you used an emergency to show Caroline matured into a real character before our very eyes. I find it plausible too, since sometimes that's what it takes to reveal hidden qualities people otherwise wouldn't use; she even proved instrumental in aiding Eliza's escape--to say nothing of her telling JW what she wanted. Bravo! I mean, they're both in London SO I can't see them NOT getting together. The how, though, is up to you.

I can understand John's rage in wanting to dismember George, although perhaps Biddleton did poison his food and he's dead on the road. I can understand him regressing to his natural "bastard" mode when he wants everyone safe...but all I can say is please be careful how you handle Eliza's baby, as well as what I would assume is an upcoming Rockdale/Eliza reconciliation: what I mean is that be careful you don't overdo their unneeded suffering. Oddly enough, this almost kind of takes on the almost-ending part of "Fools Rush In."

Hands down a 5. You write well, from nightmares to the sexual sensations, the pain, the thinking and the drama. Yowsa.

Yes, you do! I left a Lisa Kleypas story aside thinking I could finish this first and it is not yet finished! Tsk...tsk...not fair. You should seriously consider getting this published. Smooth over the rough edges a bit, better proof reading and who knows you could a historical romance writer like Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Hoyt and Loretta Chase. This reads like a reformed rake story in everyway possible. The dark (D/s, S&M) aspects could be couched in a little more flowery language and I feel that those could easily fit nicely in books like The Duke's Perfect Wife by Jennifer Ashley or Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt. In fact these are the bits that were hinted at but never explicitly explored in those stories. Now, please be kind and give us the HEA that all romantics yearn for.

I came over here to look for this story again in hopes it had been finished. Alas! I hope you have not given it up! I read all the chapters a year ago and still think of it fondly.
