Click hereI walked on, rapidly, half afraid the blacked-out van would return for me. The prison wall, which flanked the road, seemed to go on for ever. I saw no-one, and no vehicles drove past. At long last the high stone wall began to veer away from the road: fields with livestock appeared, cows and sheep, and then I came to another bus stop. I was just trying to decide whether or not to wait, when providentially a bus appeared from the direction of the prison.
I held out my arm, and the bus stopped. It seemed like a big, warm, companionable animal. I had no idea where it was going, so I asked the driver for a single to the town centre. I half expected him to laugh or tell me I was on the wrong bus, but he took some coins without a murmur and handed me a ticket.
For a moment I stood, staring at the Driver's uniform, waiting to be told where to sit. Then I stirred myself and walked down to the back of the bus, past a couple of women with shopping trolleys and a man with a terrier on a length of rope. I knew my appearance screamed 'Prison', and wanted to be as far as possible from the gaze of boarding passengers. The bus started up. I craned my neck and stared out of the back window. The walls of the prison receded and, as we turned a corner, disappeared from my sight.
I wondered if I would ever see Prana again.

iceblockover 6 years agoThis story kept me in from start to finish which is so rare for something so long. Kudos to the writer for that, creating an interesting and engaging story that I never once felt like skipping ahead. I wanted to mention how much I enjoyed the dialogue, maybe it's just me, but I detected that each character had their own tone and language. For example Prana's speech was a lot different to that of everyone else, like you could almost read her accent. Very clever! Also Chloe seemed to have a different inflection to Rose for example. It was interesting there was a five year gap between the Chapter One and the rest. I wonder why you'd be moved so moved to finish something so quickly so long after it started, it's almost like a prison sentence was served in itself! Also a selfish request; it would be wonderful to read a prologue from You perhaps set five years into the future once Prana and Rose have been released. Thank You so much for Your efforts!

Subtextabout 7 years agoQuality writing! There's a lot of power in subtle development, something you don't see too much in the fetish category. The idea of turning Chloe into the administrator of pain against Prana was quite arousing. It makes you wonder if it gave Chloe (or Prana) a sexual thrill on some level. As a reader that's the effect it had on me, but maybe that's because this is the first one of your series that I've read. Brilliant job!
