Once you realize what happened, shut off the oven and leave it closed. Once you open the door, you let more oxygen in to burn
Unfortunately, I was dealing with a grease fire that got under the burner, and it turned out a lid over it didn't cut off enough oxygen. The electrics in the stove shorted when the insulation melted.... but we got a fire extinguisher on it, so only lost the stove and had a scorch mark up the wall... no fire fighters needed
