To be any Eagle Scout you have to finish it and all merit badges before you turn 18. So technically the story is crossing a line? You can earn your lifeguard position in the BSA after you turn 18 but not a merit badge and not eagle

Mixed feelings about this one. I'm an Eagle Scout, April 1973. Do your math correctly and you'll know that I'm sixty-something. Once an Eagle, ALWAYS an Eagle. If you cut my arm, I'll bleed green. With all of the current lawsuits flying around, Scouting has taken a really bad hit. It hurts me to my core that child predators affected this once great institution. I really enjoyed the story, I just wish that the setting would have been for a county lifeguard training and that BSA had been left out of the picture.
