KARMA IS A FICKLE BITCH WHO DOTES ON IRONY - AND OCCASIONALLY KICKS YOUR ASS WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT
Friday afternoon at the Sheriff's office and I was going over finalizations to prepare our move from our cramped, antiquated offices and jails to the new Joint Public Safety Center as our combined Sheriff's office, police department, fire station and National Guard armory and other offices was being called. I was coordinating everything from new office furniture and equipment delivery, records, arms and munitions, evidence and, finally, transferring prisoners to the new jail. I was literally up to my ass in the alligators, as they say. Fortunately, things were fairly quiet in the New Year, thus far.
As I sat at my desk going blind on all of this, my phone buzzed. It was Karen Landingham.
"Yes, Karen?"
"Sheriff, your wife is here." Shit. I had my door closed and she probably thought I was busy.
"Please, send her in."
Shannon actually burst through the door, eyes red and swollen from crying.
"Sweetheart, what the hell is wrong?"
"Oh, Patrick! I'm so sorry to rush in here like this," she said as I embraced her.
"What is it sweetheart?"
"Patrick, I just got a phone call from your sister, Beth. It's your father."
I steeled myself to what came next. "What's happened?"
"I'm sorry, sweetheart, but he's in the hospital. He's had a massive stroke! He's in a critical care unit in Des Moines."
I struggled to speak. "How...how bad?"
Shannon hugged me and held me close. "I'm afraid it was very bad. He's lost the use of everything on the right side and he can barely speak."
Oh, shit. I had been able to reverse a lot of the damage over the past few weeks with all of the people I had hurt, shunned and pissed off over the last few years. Even Clarissa and I were on better terms than we had been in a long time.
But the one person I still had an extremely toxic relationship with was my father. And now, I suddenly had no idea whether I would ever get the chance to fix it.

The problem was that right now I couldn't figure out whose ass Karma was trying to kick.
My father's?
Or mine...

P.S. - For those of you who found the info about Minister Louis Farrakhan incredulous...well, I did too. But you can find if by googling "Louis Farrakhan Dianetics" and it will bring up a whole litany of articles excoriating the minster.

EastCoaster122 days agoSince we haven't seen the author here for quite some time, we can only hope that the last update to his profile which promised a continuation of the Pat Quinn stories will actually come to be.
This one was another 5 star entry, and if it truly is the end of his work here, it was happy for the characters and sad for the fans of Sheriff Quinn.

Personally dont trust anyone who's muslim, too many of the so called non radical dont/wont condemn the radicals and thats makes them complicit and abettors of the rabid scum.Curious, original plan for new prison was 300+/- pows, now theyre settling for 80? thats hardly better than 40. Also, not comfortable at all tghat the prison is co-located w/ rec center, NG armory, and other places you wldnt want an escaping felon to have easy access to. I cant remember all the other types of stuff to be included in 30 mil[originally supposed to be 40mil] new facility, oh yeah, emergency mgmn ctr, mass shelter location maybe some senior citizen shit and an elementary scrool chillen day care? V stupid to a a jail colocated w/ all that. How many serious escapees are there yearly from hi security jails across the US? hundreds. seperated blg for scum if you please. rk

I'd love to read how Sheriff Quinn deals with his father's stroke and convalescence.
Truly a very very well done series. Great story telling.
As an aside. The Literotica comments sections really are chock full of idiots, mentally challenged, and imbeciles. Some of these comments really are just ludicrous.
This is a FREE story full of about the most real characters you could hope to find here. Again. It's FREE you morons.
See a plot hole? Point it out. Find a technical mistake dealing with police work, criminal forensics, or technology? Point it out. Problem with dialogue or the flow of rhe story? Point it out. Make suggestions.
But "I stopped reading when it looked like one of these cop characters looked like he might have some prejudices. So I just stopped." Or that the sheriff cop from rural America who lives on a ranch...believes in the 2nd amendment, hates cheaters, mistrusts terrorists and fights crime is too liberal? Politics is local. He's a county sheriff. He is self interested. He wants funding for emergency services. Distrusts most people in authority. Is no respected of persons. And will kill you if you threaten his family. How's that "liberal".
Good god so many of you mouth breathers on here are fucking morons. Do us all a favor and just stfu.
