He cheats, she exacts extravagant revenge, then she invites caning (why isn't she belting him, he started it?), neither of them express any affection, let alone love for each other but they each choose to remain faithful. I had emotional reactions to this story. I believe in choices of lifestyle. If possible I believe in forgiveness and making the marriage work. If the betrayal can be forgiven and love can prevail OK. In this instance the wife cannot love her husband as much as she loves being the boss and in control. The first betrayal is wrong and needs to be addressed with remorse. Her betrayal was so much more it cannot even be considered an eye for an eye. His acceptance of her treatment, in real life, would make the marriage untenable with all the control on her side. And this marriage would be about control and who is right. It is the author's story.He can make the plot he wants. He can have the characters be the way he wants. I can say it was hard to read and it felt like going thru quicksand to get to the other side. Just yuk.
