First, an airline captain would never announce "we are all going to die" even if it were true. Second, at cruising altitude an airliner would be able to glide about seventy miles and find some place to put the plane down and not slam it into a mountain. Thirdly, ALL commercial airplanes are required to be able to continue to fly and land safely with one engine disabled.
