If you have never done so, I highly suggested following my characters' lead and placing your hand upon the trunk of a tree, leaning in closely with your ear, closing your eyes and feeling/listening to the heartwood. There is a pulse!

HEARTWOOD is the innermost layer of the tree (nonliving, inactive cells). While the Sapwood is what carries water and nutrients to the tree...in my story Heartwood is the part that sustains the "Spirit" of the tree. :)

Although it was a non-human story, this was a true romance, and gentle and sexy where it needed to be. A great read, although a bit slow at times.
