Your "I heard a moan and something close to a menacing rattle from the shadows beyond and to one side of the table, where there was a narrow brass bed with a thin mattress. " chilled me to my core! Thank you for the cathartic cry.

WOW! I have read a lot of your stuff. Some I liked more than others. This one is by far my favorite, certainly of your stories. I can't say it is an all time favorite story because it contains elements that I tend to avoid in a story. I think it is a remarkable story. In fact, I think it is superb. It was captivating and compelling? For a bit, I actually thought he would reenact the opening scene. So glad he didn't.
