I was adopted by my grandparents when I was about 7 or 8, so my Dad was biologically my grandfather. When I was a teen, if he was upset with me, he would say that I acted like a boy that 'jacked off' and it always bothered me, as if there was something wrong with me. I was in my 40's when I finally came out to him, that I was gay. He told me he couldn't understand how a man could like other men, but that he still loved me.

Not too long before he passed away at 91, I brought that up to him, re:about what he said when I was a teen. He told me he didn't remember saying that, and if he did, he didn't realize it would bother me, and he knew that all boys jack off after they reach puberty, and there was really nothing wrong with it, it was just something boys do, and he thought it was pretty normal.
