Our pious and naïve Kaity gets sold by her dark-hearted friend(?) Kat. As you wrote, Kat gets revenge for years of Kaity judging her, so thanks for giving us that info to know why Kat was doing this. One suggestion - you could have come back to Kaity's narration at the end. She could have been wondering why she felt a little different and funny. She could have reacted to her new surroundings. She could have asked Kat questions about the pageant and articulated her anxieties and uneasiness about it. Sorry - don't mean to intrude into your territory - just think that going there could have built up more suspense for the next chapter.
So far, really good. Excellent anticipation and suspense regarding what's to come.
