Nope, not buying into this nonsense. Move 5000 miles, spend months turning a run-down shack into a nice house, a decent place to live? Only to give the place away, to total strangers? I just don’t think so. I’m not that altruistic, and I don’t really believe many other people are, either.

The selflessness combined with the fulfillment which Lilly got from doing what a good friend had asked her to do was a combination which is very rare, but does sometimes happen.

You lost me when she gave away the house. The guy could have willed it to his kids to remodel. If she wanted to share it with future generations, she could have given it to her own future children.
