Click hereSmiling demurely, Sarah flattened her skirts and without so much as a word, disappeared into the house. Left wondering and still on my knees, I followed her retreat with dismay. Was that all there was to be? I slowly stood, shook out my hair and continued with my self-imposed duties. Stunned disbelief was insufficient to describe my state of mind, but this was only the beginning.
I really enjoyed this, you’re a wonderful writer.
I can feel a touch of modern in this story, yet I truly wonder how well a woman (or women) would’ve been able to live without a man or family, in the male dominated world of the 19th century.
I’ve read up on a lot of history and while I like the story, I know without a doubt that women were considered incompetent in everything except the running of the house, especially in England. So, the solicitors arranging it so Elizabeth’s money didn’t go into her husbands accounts is a bit far fetched.
But at the same time, it is a well done story of fiction.
