Good Story, good characters and great writing, well done

So far so good. A good start at developing the characters.

Personally I hate an abusive male, as my daughter was involved in such a relationship and I can appreciate your development and understanding of such a situation.

I personally almost killed the asshole and he is no longer around and I hope this is where you are headed with this story.

It takes a special kind of a coward to molest a woman or a child and I hope they all rot in HELL.

Obviously just by the number of stories and length a writing talent but the detail shines thru. The structure could be more joined up and take out the breaks....

unecessary with just a litttle imagination. At this stage the scenary is being set and in most best books the reader has to work a little. As long as there is a smooth continuim and you put in little reminders in later chapters for any salient parts/character. You did not need to do the offset .... unfortunatly such monsters exist and you only have to read enough sex stories on-line to find their excuses in some authors thinking/work. While you pray at the back of yur mind that this is exageration .... it sails close to real life and feels real; apart from the hollywood style offsets for an extra mount of hope. The nice guy interest and the lottery donor make this more fictional than any of the brutality or "sex" (?). We have to think of another word ... just like in the case of 'rape'. Today news included Womens Aid Scotland indicating 50,000 abuse cases last year to merit the award of lottery moneyr family support work. And this excludes the abused men. While obviously this is a worst case scenario I'm sure the worst would be Worse. I was fortunate to have contact and able to offer some small apt support. WA are not in any way haters but the work tests all kinds of human faith.

A final thought would it not be wonderful if NOTW ex & The Sun (surely one of the most inapt titles in all recorded history.. a classic Orwellianism) instead of delving into teachers et al Private Lifes (sadly most of the people receiving recompense are not even in this cat and in most cases actually feature, in current economic straits, reverse Robin Hood, where money paid by 'ordinary punters' for news is used to pay sums to people that already typicaly have money; tho I supose in the case of The Times......IF they used their 'methods' to trace and expose apt violent abusers and published after trials, in writing that did not titilate abuse... one could imagine a fall in the 50,000, no matter how small, and by following sentences reflect on the nature of justice in such cases.

Some at the paper will be shouting such IS featured? Really? How many of the 50,000? What Womens Aid worker does a reg feature? BY THE WAY I SPENT A GOOD NUMBER OF YEARS WORKING IN SCOTLAND, WHILE ALCOHOL REPUTEDLY FEATURES MORE IN DAILY LIFE, AND IS USED TOO OFTEN AS A COVER, IT WOULD BE TOTALLY WRONG EVEN AMONG THE MOST NEEDY ESTATES TO SEE THE SCOTTISH MALE AS MORE VIOLENT PRONE.
