To the anon that posted 4 days go if every man had to take a DNA test that could possibly be a father the hospitals couldn't do nothing else but DNA test meaning there will be a lot of lives lost so that way of thinking makes you sound like a complete idiot. So do us all a favor quit commenting before you lower the rest of ours iq

Story is too preachy.

DNA tests should be mandatory for evey baby. Not only for the biological father but for the baby too. The baby deserves to know their bio father and what traits and illnesses they may biologically have.

AnonymousAnonymous2 months ago

What part of FICTION is not clear? Besides, the comment section would be my last source of information, especially legal.

Thank you HDK for your tale.

I'm not sure this writer understands the reasoning for a DNA test at least not fully yes any man can claim perternety on any newborn child that is the exact reason why DNA test was created this story made it sound like a father is weak if some strange man claims to be the biological father of the kid in question when in reality if the husband/father responds with show me the DNA test results that is not showing weakness that is in fact proving to be a loving father and is remaining calm for his family when deep inside he is fuming truth of the matter for the most part a man does not know how he would react in this situation without ever having to face it though I will admit a few does know how they would act which is why I do agree but at the same time I don't agree with the comment my husband @phoenixlore1981 said I don't agree that all men would act like he said they would but I do agree that they would be wanting to go to war the kind of war is what I disagree with just I also agree that a dad isn't just going to offer money to the person making the claim the husband in this story is correct offering to throw money at it cost not just the father to have no self respect but would cost his entire family to have no respect which is why I agree a man wouldn't act in that manner I do fully agree when my husband said if it was him he would have killed the man that's 100 percent truth there is nothing more important to my husband than his family and to threaten his family is signing a death warrant he would care about the consequences he may have to face I have to stop him more than once from going to far when someone was messing with me with this being in terms of the father's kid if a man which I say about 80 percent of them would react in the manner my husband said was to act in that manner I don't believe anything could stop but I don't believe all men would act that way I believe about 10 percent would respond calmly and demand a DNA test just like I believe some would allow it and do nothing about it

What a load of crap! There’s no way her father would have paid that amount of money without first demanding a paternity test. Doing so doesn’t cast doubt on his daughter’s reputation. Rather it serves to ensure her honor remains intact. What the sniffling little prick was doing was extortion. For the father to have given in and paid the money, he would only be cementing his belief that his daughter was a cheating slut. Suspension of disbelief FAIL!!

PhoenixLore1981PhoenixLore19814 months ago

I stand corrected in the United States paternity fraud is not against the law any longer so is not punishable by the law however blackmail and extortion is and is punishable up to 15 years and what this man in the story is extortion and attempt to blackmail

AnonymousAnonymous4 months ago

An interesting plot line and idea. With DNA testing available Richards would have to prove he was the father before anything happened and any lawyer would insist on one being done before considering advising a settlement. So I can't see how the plot by Richards would work and he committed a crime by claiming paternity and attempting to extort money. So clever idea by HDK but it really doesn't work so I struggled to believe the plot. BardnotBard

AnonymousAnonymous4 months ago

Uh....... a simple DNA test for the child and the father would settle the claim. The rest was just unnecessary. It would have been a better story had the husband explored a legal suit against the false claimant. Would this be a form of fraud? Still an interesting concept story by HDK.

OlefishermanOlefisherman4 months ago

Fraud on the court in some states filing a lawsuit like that is a Fraud punishable by five to ten years in the state prison. Otherwise lawsuits would be flying like sparrows and everyone would get crapped on. The Civil law system would come to a complete stop instead of the snail craw it's at.

AnonymousAnonymous5 months ago

Poorly written story and writer is evidently ignorant that a simple DNA testing is relatively simple to get and would have undone this whole lengthy goofy threat in a matter of days with proof of that test result. Dumb to suggest the father in law even needed to be a part of this story. Maybe the writer is living under a rock isn't aware of this technology?

Hmm not sure how to really comment on this situation on 1 hand he fully trusted his wife which is something a husband should always do when having been given no reason to think otherwise now the fact her dad was just going to throw money at the guy to make it go away and didn't trust his daughter is something as dad myself can't get behind not even remotely i cant help but to think the dad was hoping it was true and more than likely had it set for him to actually take it to court i think the dad was banking on the fact his daughter husband wouldn't challenge the claim by demanding a dna test but that can't be proven on the other hand once he found out it was a lie why didn't he sue him for slander anyways he would have some grounds to do so it would have been slim but still more importantly he should have responded with tell him ill see him in court then the judge would have ordered a DNA test and if the guy refused it would have told the judge admittedly that it was a false claim which would have served a couple of things 1 it would have gave claim to slander the judge would have admittedly awarded the claim to the victims and 2 would have showed attempt to extort venages or money from the victims which would have landed him in jail only good things really about this story is the husband trusted his wife and 2 the wife was a actual loving wife however the actions of the husband after the claim was made with the exception of trusting his wife is just something a man wouldn't do which if it was ever in doubt rather the writer was a woman or a man was completely without a doubt answered in this story cause the way the husband and dad acted again it was actions that no man and damn sure no dad would do not only was this person challenging him he was going after his family and a man would not put up with that in the calm manner the husband did and nor in the manner that the wife's dad was going to do that would have never even crossed there mind unless the person who was makes the offer had something to do with it in first place so unless the wife's dad had something to do with it him nor the husband acted in the manner of which a man would have handled it a man would have went to war right away and in the way that would be against the law cause no 1 messes with a mans family in that way if it was me the man who made the claim would have be dead cause I would have killed the mother fucker for messing with my family you can mess with me all you want but not mine and that means not my family and that neans anyone i consider to be my family

Good story. But suspect would still get a paternity test. Richards wad back asshole. Easy to slander someone when in a coma. They can't defend. Her father had zero faith in her and treated her fidelity like a business transaction.

Despite all outcomes a DNA test would be an instant necessity to instantly shut this type of crap down, whether you believed in your wife or not.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

To the anonymouses who wrote about DNA tests. I initially thought the same thing.

Then I looked at when the story was written. In 2007 DNA tests were not as easily obtained as they are now. They were incredibly expensive as it was new science. So therefore paternity testing was a legitimate story line.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 2 years ago

Umm paternity test? Did the state they live in suddenly ban DNA tests? So the father-in-law would rather pay $100k than get a paternity test?

The issue could have been resolved with a simple DNA test, but the story just ignored that.

It seems people dont get it, why her father wanted to give money. Its not only not trusting his own daughter, people like him loves their jobs more than family, so he doesn't want any possible stink related to him. And there will be, even if she is innocent, dont underestimate people's malevolence. So he handled it just like he used to in business, bribe the fucker and make him sign a paper.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 2 years ago

I really like what you wrote, but I feel there is so much more story you could have told.

sbrooks103xsbrooks103xabout 2 years ago

"If Liz doesn't come out of the coma, he wants custody of Marisa." - The husband is the presumed father. Bio-dad can get visitation, I believe he'd also be liable for some child support, but custody would be highly unlikely.

\

While the confrontation was fun, regardless of how much faith you have in your wife. you would insist on PROOF of paternity, and since he can't prove any, he would just slink away.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 2 years ago

Dad was not a man to take this sort of thing lightly. He was embarrassed by his belief that his daughter was unfaithful to her husband and had created a child from an unfaithful action. In fact he was pissed off.

Richard's left the area and returned to Texas to get on with his life. Dad's PI's found him after a bit of a search and Dad paid some good money to teach Richards a lesson.

Tim was questioned, at the request of the Texas authorities, as to his involvement but convinced the local LEO's he had nothing to do with it. The crime remains unsolved.

Oh you want to know what happened to Richards well his knees were destroyed, his hands were destroyed, his genitals had to be surgically removed (to save his life) as well as numerous other injuries.

Good story. I gave it a 5, especially with the twist ending. I think you covered all the bases, but I would have enjoyed a second chapter, detailing some of the loose ends. What eventually happened to Richards? Did dear old dad, pay someone to beat him up, for threatening his daughters reputation, trying to extort him, and breaking up a family? WHAT caused Liz accident? Extortion is a crime. Did dear old dad ever take him to court? Also, isn’t it nice that daddy dearest offers up 100 grand, to in effect save “ his” reputation. But why hasn’t he tried to make things better for his daughter and husband? I don’t know about most of you, but a hundred grand could go a long way, to help an average family. Anyway, my two cents....

Why do so many commenters have to make nasty comments especially on those stories that are just plain good stories. After all these are just works of fiction and the creative imagination of the author. No wonder that so many would be authors stop writing when all they get from commenters is negativity rather than a little constructive criticism and encouragement. Most of the negative commenters if you look have nothing published on this site. I found this story to be well written and the I liked the storyline. Well done gets my 5 star vote.

What does her Dad know that her husband doesn't?

The wife's father did not become wealthy by giving his money away to charlatans and fools. Unless he is aware his daughter has gotten some strange cock on the side at other times since she married, why would he offer a 6 figure settlement with no DNA test done first? Normally I would think the husband's curiosity would force him to get the genetic testing done. This man's convictions about the primacy of the family unit over all other considerations no doubt mean he would rather not know.

This is an interesting dilemma I'm sure no husband would ever want to face. Thank you for presenting it, HDK.

This seemed to he HDKs rant about paternity more than a story

Sometimes I like him and other times I find the stories weak and contrived with unrealistic actions. Not having a DNA test is stupid. Even if you believe that your wifes honor is unimpeachable, you get the DNA test to protect yourself. It also allows you to squash and threaten slander.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 5 years ago
Sorry HDK...

this was a first time reading of your story and I have to say that first the wives father being contacted first should have been a red flag. The husbands refusal to a DNA test would not be a admission that his wife might have had an affair but a conformation that he was the father. If he was that confident it would have scared off Richards because he would have been calling his bluff. Richards Lawyer taking on a case on just his word with out some kind of backing would have laughed him out of the office

This was a good, tight story but his musings about dna testing was just so odd that it pulled me out of the experience.

Even if he had complete faith in his wife, he should have wanted to have the testing done so he could prove he was the father and laugh in the face of the accuser. It would sort of make dropping the lawsuit a breeze.

DNA testing is always a good thing

Tim was awfully relaxed about the idea of Marisa not being biologically his, and I strongly disagree about his philosophizing. If a child is not biologically related to the father because the wife cheated, then he deserves to know, rather than living a sham.

If someone assert it's not his then get a DNA test, rather than willfully closing your eyes.

Just accepting that it's natural men from time to time raise another man's baby without knowing is ridiculous.

As an adopted child, I can second the comments that biological parentage isn't the most important detail in a family unit. Love and devotion are, and I had plenty!

That being said, I was delighted in my later years to discover that I had 2 half sisters by my biological mother (who I've also grown to love), and we've become very close.

Not all sperm donors shy away. I fathered a daughter 37 years ago .Because of our spouses she made me promise not to tell anyone. about 5 years later I ran into her and asked if she had told the little girl about me. she said she was waiting for the right moment since she had divorced the non biological father. I lost contact with them as they had moved like 300 miles away till 14 years later she walked into my office showed me pictures of my daughter but still had not told her. since that time I´ve lost contact with them and no!! I don´t have money for a private investigator to track them down. I´m hoping some day she tells her, even if my daughter won´t accept me as her father maybe at least as a friend.

Paternity Should Be A Hospital Requirement

I had a talk with our family doctor once and the subject of unsuspecting men shouldering the responsibility of raising another man's child (or children) came up. He said it would totally astound the people of our area if they knew how many men listed on birth certificates as father of a child were in fact NOT the biological father. We discussed the pros and con's of making paternity tests at the hospital to determine and/or prove actual paternity of each baby born. He said that he fully expects that someday lawyer/politicians would push such legislation through and it would become law. I have given it some thought and I am reluctantly in favor of it.

I believe there are people out there that would not understand how a husband would accept the child of another man. A child is guiltless. She/he/it knows not who provided the DNA. What the child wants is warmth, food, and touch, All equally important. Years later when she finds out who squirted semen into her mother's womb and which man taught her how to ride a bike, that bought makeup to cover an acne pimple for that first dance, and held her sobbing shoulders during her first break up. When she is 30, ask which man she would like to name her first son after.

This was a story about real Love and trust in a partner. Sure the guy had some doubts at the beginning but he overcame them because he really knew his wife and trusted her. Paternity Test

A paternity test shouldn't necessarily be considered as doubt on her fidelity, simply as its name implies a test of his paternity, because face it, even if the test shows that Richards ISN'T the father doesn't say anything about any possible affair.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 8 years ago
Why No Paternity Test? You Ask

To conduct a paternity test on Marisa would have every appearance of doubting his wife's faithfulness. Richards was pond scum. The fact that he went to Frank proved he was strictly after big money. Tim had an extremely valid argument that Marisa was his with no expensive paternity test required. If Liz told Tim that 'we' are having a baby and Tim, as husband and father-to-be, did not question his paternity, any lawsuit to the contrary was without validity and frivolous. Case dismissed. 5 star story.

Tw0Cr0wsTw0Cr0wsover 8 years ago
that would be too easy and wrong besides

To do a paternity test would make it appear that he did not trust his wife.

His faith in her fidelity was such that it would be an insult to both of them.

But having proven it was not the other man's child then it is 'time to loose the hounds' on him.

Slander, defamation of character, attempted fraud, and I'm sure a few lawyers could find more.

That is where 'dear old FIL's' money would be best spent.

Leave the other fellow in financial ruin and deep debt, after he gets out of jail/prison/probation.
