OK I suppose that in any good dream, especially an erotic dream, Johnny can have it any way he wants it. But it appears to be a dream that is flawed. Suddenly after a very polite dinner,which leaves the reader anticipating a tender deflowering, he starts acting like an ass, and Gloria responds like a bored whore. But on the other hand maybe that really is how it happens.

Not really important, but in 1942, no American soldier was on his way to France... the invasion of Europe started with D-Day on June 6, 1944.
