"Yes," Frieda started, "but a moment, good sir. I must see to the safety of the house." She turned and walked back in for the very last time. She carefully closed the door between the back entrance and the kitchen, lest the scent of the oil raise alarm. Going up to the bed chamber she paused to look upon the lifeless visage of her former mistress. "May this fire introduce you to the fires of Hell," she said quietly and lit the candle. Without looking back, she went down to the kitchen and out the doorway. She paused outside to fit and close a lock to the door.
"I'm ready," she said to the coachman, who opened the door of the coach and assisted her inside. She sat quietly while the coachman climbed to his driver's box. She heard a sharp call and the coach moved forward.
