Since i missed the reference to the original novel (the New Yorker one), I did get a Paul Auster vibe. The story, the setting, the way the words were set to further progress the story – it all fit. That is until the protagonist found the key to the secret room. But, since the story was supposed to deviate, I went with it.
What I usually do reading from this site is to “fix” the story before reading. Not that I rewrite it, more like editing. Reading this spared me from doing that. I could just sit back and enjoy.
