We have all face similar hard choices and fallen short. The very idea that this presented a dilemma for Katie showed the basic good quality of her person, despite her many failings.

I did not like the stories that lead up to this one which featured the ugliness and foul smelliness of Phil. This time you played down those qualities of Phil and dwelt instead on the dilemma in Katie's mind; a dilemma you handled very well.
