It seems clear that "My War" is based on your own memories, as you slip and write "I" or "we" every now and again. If that is so, then you clearly had a tumultuous time. The proposal of marriage to Sadie was a great surprise-- I would have expected Tony to wait a little longer before asking her, especially considering his bad luck with the other three women-- but perhaps that's what really happened.
