A small complaint that nagged at me when I started reading:

In my career, I've worked with a lot of athletes: gymnastics, cheerleading, basketball, etc. Six foot tall high school female cheerleaders aren't believable, unless this story takes place in Amsterdam. College and high school cheerleaders are typically 4'11" to 5'4", occasionally 5'6". Being nearly a foot taller than the rest of her squad, a 6'1" cheerleader wouldn't be able to integrate with her teammates in stunts or choreography. This has nothing to do with your story, and I get that this is fantasy. Sorry to nitpick.
